here's an interesting one, im sure it must be simple to fiz, as every other phone ive ever owned copes with it

baiscally if i have a number ie: +44 12345678 in my contacts list, when that person rings me it will show as incoming 012345678 (like a normal UK number) the BB does not realise that this is the contact i have listed as +4412345678 so does not show their name.

if i set the contact up as 012345678 then incoming calls show up fine, but texts will display as +4412345678

(as texts show up as the whole number inc. dialing code, but calls show with no international code)

so basically i have to choose if i want people to display properl for calls, or for messages.


surely theres a way of setting it so that the blackberry knows that anything prefixed with +44 is the same as anything starting 0? every other phone ive ever owned knows this and doesn't care?

why do orang UK ship a phone preconfigured with US settings :( better see if i can set that policy from the BES

yeah - i have to do the same. Cept when i call - a voice comes on and says sorry blah blah blah. How did you fix it????

Really, How did u fix it? its been driving me nuts for almost a year...

Go into the Phone Application.
Click the trackwheel and select Options
Select Smart Dialing
Change the Country Code to the appropriate code.

I did that.. and I also put the area code.. the problem is that land lines and cell operators different area codes and the number length varies depending on the provider.. No matter what I do.. i still have the problem as stated by the original poster

AND remove the + country code from contact numbers in your address book.

I'm on t-mobile macedonia.. I will try as u suggested in the FAQ and will let u know what happens.

OK it works.. i kept putting that the local number is 9 digits.. but since the 0 is the first digit.. if you put the country code it doesn't display the 0, so i had to change the length of local number to 8.
