Default iGo Bluetooth Keyboard Uncaught Exception error - 05-14-2008, 08:04 AM

Hi,
Hope someone can help,

When I click on the Stowaway icon within the Applications window I receive an error message stating

"Uncaught exception: Layout requested during layout"

I have set the keyboard to trusted and uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers directly from my phone and still get the message.

Please can someone advise how to get around this problem.

Regards,

Trev

What BlackBerry model and OS version are you using? There might be an incompatibility with OS 4.3 and later, the iGo/ThinkOutside Bluetooth keyboards tend to work fine with OS 4.2 BlackBerries.

____________

Other information about my use of external Bluetooth keyboards on BlackBerry:

The Thinkoutside Bluetooth Universal Keyboard works fine with my BlackBerry, as does the Freedom too. (I own both, great keyboards for different reasons). Dell Executive Axim Bluetooth keyboard actually seems to work with BlackBerry using these drivers too -- they are clones of the same keyboard. Even though it was made for an Axim PocketPC, it works with the BlackBerry using the iGo drivers...

The drivers haven't been updated recently, though. Freedom now has more stable drivers in my experience, but I like the ThinkOutside/iGo better in a jeans pocket -- it's only two-thirds the volume of the Freedom.

Tradeoffs. There are no perfect Bluetooth keyboards. Reliable drivers with reliable reconnection now belong to Freedom. While compactness and excellent keyboard feel (if you don't mind Fn shifted number keys) with easier table-free lap durability, goes to iGo.

Both keyboards are equally fragile, for different reasons -- I go through about one or two keyboards per year, and I got a 4-pack of ThinkOutside Bluetooth keyboards for only $100 (Being the same as iGo, except brand name, at only $25 per keyboard, a real bargain). As a deaf person, I am a very HEAVY user of foldable keyboards including for in-person communications, so they are somewhat disposable to an extent under my heavy use including in bars, at meetings, in restaurants, on grass, on my lap without a flat surface, in the backseat of a moving car, etc.

I've been meaning to post a review of all the various Bluetooth keyboards I've used with the BlackBerry -- perhaps this summer I will.

Thanks,
Mark Rejhon

Hi,

I am using a BB Pearl 8120 and OS 4.3.

Has anyone had success with the above on the iGo/Think Outside Ultra Slim Bluetooth Keyboard?
