Default charging issue - 06-09-2008, 01:44 PM

After plugging in my bb8820 to the USB port on my computer it will no longer charge at the computer nor through the wall charger... nothing is wrong with the cords, i tested my friend's bb and it worked fine. the computer i plugged it into initially did not have bb tools installed on it. I tried plugging it into my friends computer which does have the tools installed and it still does not recognize or charge.

Any ideas?

Either the battery or the usb port. Can you get a hold of another battery?

don't think it is the battery because the phone was able to stay on and be used before it currently became completely drained... Also when i plug in the phone the red light comes on for like 5 sec like its charging... then it turns off and the little battery charging icon turns on the screen... then the screen flashes like 3 sec later and turns off again and it does nothing.

Do you see 5 gold pins on the USB port on your BB?

This may sound like a dumb question but it's been the problem before so....

Is the battery completely charged already?

Plug it in to a wall charger for a few hours.

if you dont have access to another battery, check out this page: Support | AT&T, formerly Cingular

AT&T has specific "device support centers" where they can troubleshoot your phone on the spot and issue you a replacement if you're still under warranty... all for free, while you wait. scroll to the bottom of the page to see if there's a location near you.

Ok I just tested another fully charged battery. my phone started to boot up just fine. I put my depeleted battery in another phone and hooked it up to my wall charger and it started to charge just fine. So something is wrong with the phone, not the battery that will not allow it to charge. Yet the port appears to be just fine.

Long shot - use a pencil eraser then a sliver of emery board and try cleaning the battery contacts inside the phone

and while you're in there, make sure the gold contacts arent bent up all wonky and unable to reach the battery.

if all is sound, take a trip to one of the device centers i listed in that link.
