Any one know whether it is possible to use a blackberry as a modem with a laptop? Specifically an Apple Powerbook.

thank you

Welcome!

Please feel free to join our BlackberryModem thread:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=124

This feature is likely to be available on the model 7290 with BlackberryOS 4.0 at least with certain carriers. It is unconfirmed, however, whether a software upgrade will be available for older Blackberries to add modem functionality. But I am hoping!

Thanks,
Mark Rejhon

It absolutely works on Cingular though, just to let you know, you may need to call the old 611 and get WIX (Wireless Internet Express) unblocked from your BB data plan.

I just used a 7100T as a modem through T-mobile. It requires some init string variables

Default Using blackberry 7100t with tmobile as modem for Powerbook - 08-06-2005, 10:57 AM

I've tried setting up the bb as a modem for my mac powerbook, but can't seem to get the setup to work (using USB cable to connect the two devices) If anyone can provide detailed info, I'd be grateful. Thanks!

I have the 7290 with Cingular service and use is as a modem with my laptop with no problems. I have the voice plan and unlimited email as well as web browsing. Was told by Cingular no other plan was needed and there would not be any additional charges.

This is an old thread. Go to the BlackBerry FAQ in the BlackBerry Guides forum and you'll see the Modem FAQ.

Or just click BlackBerry FAQ below:
