Arrow unlocking a 7520 from Nextel - 03-20-2006, 11:50 AM

I recently was recently the reciepiant of a BB7520. Unfortunately it's locked to the Nextel network, which isn't available around my area of the world. I'm wanting to get it unlocked to try it on the networks that are available. Granted I'm not going to be able to use any of the fancy stuff around here, but I'm just trying to get the phone to work.

After reading through the forums yesterday I found two ways of getting a phone unlocked. 1) Call the carrier and ask for an unlocked code. 2) Bongo.

I called Nextel twice this morning. Both times being told that they couldn't unlock it. The first guy told me to contact RIM and ask them for the code. I hung up and tried again, got a different person, and was told that it couldn't be done.

So, I tried Bongo and the 7520 isn't listed on the list of Blackberry's that they can unlock. I've sent them an email to double check.

My question is simply, what are my options now? Does anyone know someone at Nextel who is capable of providing the needed code? If Bongo can't fix it is my only other option putting the phone on ebay and buying another?

You have no options. Nextel is Nextel. Nextel phones can't work on any of the GSM or CDMA networks. Nextel is Nextel. Best bet is to try and trade it/sell it and get a GSM or Verizon/CDMA BlackBerry.

Unhappy sounds about right... - 03-21-2006, 08:20 AM

That really shouldn't surprise me, that's about how my luck has been running lately.

Well, anyone want to buy a Nextel 7520? Willing to trade for a similar unlocked model. ;)

Essentially what NJ said is correct. Nextel uses a technology called iDen, which is totally different from every other carrier, so if you don't have Nextel coverage, there is no reason to unlock your device.

I would be interested in buying it for the right price. I would need to know more about it. The condition, what it comes with, how much use it';s had. HOw much do you want for it? By the way, jsut because there is no Nextel in your area doesnt mean it cant be used. Look for an iden carrier in your area. We dont dont have Nextel but I am on an iden carrier in Canada.

Why? What are you trying to do. What network are you going to try and use the 7520 on?

Default Blackberry unlock service - 11-30-2008, 06:57 PM

Hi, just saw your post on here about your blackberry being locked to the Nextel network, if your phone has a SIM card, you can have it unlocked. It will cost you $24.00 to do so but it is worth it. Go to cellcorner.com and search for the unlock software for your model of blackberry. I have a blackberry 7510 that was locked to the Nextel network, but downloaded that software and now i'm using it under the rogers network. Let me know how it works out.

South America uses NII holdings which operates the iDEN system there. (A spinoff of Nextel) Southern Linc in the Florida, Alabama, Florida area uses iDEN as well as Telus MiKE in Canada.

Default help swaping from nextel to southern linc - 02-05-2009, 09:58 AM

I purchased a blackberry 7520 on ebay. It is a ptt from nextel. I inserted my southern linc card and all was great, it worked fine on the new provider without problems. Yesterday, I was so pleased with it that I went to blackberry.com and downloaded the new operating system and new files. After I installed them, it showed on screen (Sim Card Problem) and would not work anymore. I then downloaded and re-installed old operating system. It now accepts Sim card but states Emergency calls only if I try to place call. I have checked for IT policy and found nothing but just to be safe I followed Ramjan instructions and added policy.bin. It still states emergency calls only. I wish I had just left it alone but is to late now. I have searched net but cannot resolve this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. When I go to the unlock icon and click on it, first the nextel emblem comes up then it states this phone is locked. I have followed all procedures listed in user guide to unlock but phone still won't work. not sure if its locked are what j=has happened. Any help greatly appreciated. I also borrowed friends nextel sim card and it works fine in the phone.

An unlocked Nextel from Sprint iDEN device can be used on the following carriers in addition to Southern LiNC and Nextel Partners:

Honestly Russel, if you look a little more on the exact page you list you will find that this handheld is built with and iDen radio, Which means you can't "unlock" it to work with GPRS or CDMA. I can't beleive you run this site and don't know the basics of wireless networks.
