As far as I know it is an ARM7 CPU. But I am not 100% sure.

All blackberries now are based on the ARM 7 or 9( new ARM) RISC processor. The old 857/957 (mobitex/datatac) used to be Intel 386.

Thanks eradic....actually i'd read two Pdf's which stated that Intel 80386 is the processor for the Blackberry 7230/6710.But i wanna know the new model's processor coz i'm wondering that it can't be still using Intel 386 because it's performance is much more better now.

I don't know why you are goign to compare processor from a Blackberry with other devices..

it's like comparing the processor on DVD players. why bother?

The blackberry processor makes little difference to your user experience on a blackberry, either you like what the blackberry gives you or you don't..

so why do you care about the processor speed on a blackberry? What could you need that isn't already available for it?

386 would probably be more than fast enough for what these little guys need to move data around.

But I would think an ARM cpu just because of battery life and easier to program a compact OS for.

Actually quite the opposite is true. Their system is very advanced and is using ASIC chips as well ( interfaced to the ARM 7). Very complicated signal processing is occurring + custom real-time OS.

If you want solid proof you could look at FCC photos of the product as they provide the open case pictures with the sheilds removed so you can see the internals... Maybe from there you can get a part number and figure it out? Let me know if you can't find it and I can take a look.

Also I would think a 386 could handle the data flow with the assistance of task specific ASICs for things such as encryption and the like
