Default New BB user 7100G questions.

Please Login to Remove!

I am new to the BlackBerry community and I have a few questions.

1) is there a key sequence you can use on the 7100G to do a hard reset or do you have to find the worlds smallest pin and push the reset button in back?

2) How do you download ringtones, I get them to play fine they just dont give me an option to download/save

3) what free applications would you say are a must have? I don't feel like spending money at the moment.

4) any other cool tricks / ideas please let me know.

*edit*

5) i have heard alot about something called JDE / java loader / ESS (email server simulator?) any ideas on where to get these, how to run them, and what they do?

Thank you in advance!

I'm new to BB, too, but I can answer #2 for you. All anybody would tell me when I asked the question was to "search", which I did, but none of the instructions were specific enough for a new user like me. I had to stumble upon this.

There are three large "buttons" you see when they pjay, one with an arrow which is to "play", the square in the middle which is to "stop" and the third which looks like three lines. Using the thumbwheel, highlight this last one then click on the thumbwheel. It brings up a menu from which you can choose to save the file, renaming it at the same time to whatever you would like. These get stored in the correct place automatically.

4) Tips and tricks: go here for a great list of shortcuts:

Well, searching would certainly help, but no one wants to search, and answering the questions is just easier than getting aggravated.

1) is there a key sequence you can use on the 7100G to do a hard reset or do you have to find the worlds smallest pin and push the reset button in back?
According to the online help, the only way to reset a 7100 is to pop out the battery.

2) How do you download ringtones, I get them to play fine they just dont give me an option to download/save
You should be able to get to the ringtones via a web browser - I don't know which browser you are using - and then play or save the ringtones. A screen with several icons, including a save icon, should appear.

3) what free applications would you say are a must have? I don't feel like spending money at the moment.
Go to http://mobile.blackberry.com and download the free Magmic games. There is not a lot of free BlackBerry software.

4) any other cool tricks / ideas please let me know.
Read the sticky threads. There are tons of tips and tricks.

1. How to reest?
I reset my blackberry devices by setting a password in the security settings. Then if you attempt to log in 10 times with the incorrect password the device will erase all data and reset.
