Red face Feedback - Radio/TV/Microphone Interference - 12-22-2006, 10:08 AM

My blackberry sends feedback through our TV's, radios... well almost anything nearby & electronic. I even heard it on the speaker while I was doing an online webinar with people all over the country. =) oops!

I haven't noticed anyone else's blackberry doing this so I figure it must be my phone or settings.

Anyone here have a suggestion?

All GSM phones do this.....at least all the ones I've been around. Nothing you can do except keep them away from speakers.

850MHz is particularly bad. Odds are that others are on 1900MHz. On my 7290 and 8700c if I use a TMO SIM (TMO's 1900 in Houston) the interference is no big deal unless I place the Blackberry right next to another device. Pop in a Cingular SIM (850) and I get interference from up to 6 feet away with the same Blackberry. It doesn't matter which model as both are quad band.

Surely you can turn your BB off for a webinar with participants from around the country...

Something else weird that happens if with wireless keyboards and mice. I've noticed that when my BB is placed near the wireless base (due to a messy desk), the response rate for the keyboard and the mouse gets stagnant and sluggish. So the interference is definitely there.

Here's another wierd one....When I'm flying I use a Bose Aviation active noise cancelling headset (runs about $1000!) Anyway, it has a small battery/electronic pack that, when plugged into the headset jacks in the airplane, sits very close to my belt where my BB is. If I forget to turn off the wireless radio (nobody on a private jet makes announcements to turn off all cell phones, etc.) it sometimes will make the entire headset go quiet! Of course it usually happens on taxiing, takeoff or landing (critical phases of flight when communications is kind of a good idea) since that's usually the only time it is getting a signal....Grrrr.....

Yeah, but it's worse when I'm trying to copy it! Must be talking to another pilot?
