BlackBerry compatible AC charger AND car charger in ONE UNIT There's a new USB-power charger that's both a car charger and an AC adaptor. http://www.boxwave.com/products/versacharger/index.htm |
The same store also sells ultracompact retractable USB cables (compatible with both your computer AND the above charger): http://www.boxwave.com/products/mini...ndheld_cat.htm Guess, maybe you want to contact BoxWave about a discount to BlackBerryClub members :D |
I not too hip on Non-OEM charging and batteries. And that thing looks a little big for my lighter socket to shifter ratio. |
True, but it uses a modern switching power supply so your car's electricity can vary from 12V all the way to a whopping 24V, without overvoltaging the charging current by accident. I think it's worth the negligible risk for the convenience -- I have used a Boxwave product and they seem to be well made -- generally got good reviews by reviewers -- they've been in the business long enough for me to trust them. I think. :) But you're right, it's generally risky for non-OEM products, have to be careful... And, yes, at 3.0 inches (plus about 0.8" inch long for miniSync USB plug or 2" for the stiff plug of a standard USB cable), it could poke too far out of the socket and into the gearshift area. Hey rcg, you own the BlackBerryCentral.com domain, right? (sent you a PM). |
Personally, I didn't like that picture...I think it looks like some kind of techno-vibrator! |
I had a versa charger from Boxwave and while I liked the versatility it offered, it didn't stand up to the rigors of travel well. If I remember correctly it was not a U/L listed product, if that matters to anyone. From a size standpoint, (size does matter, right?) I had no issues with it fitting in the same area as a standard charger. |
Has anyone tried to use the Boxwave Car Charger with a cable OTHER than the MiniSync itself? I had a MiniSync cable for my Dell handheld and now have the BB 7100t. I gave the MiniSync to my sister and kept the car charger piece. But if I try to plug the Blackberry USB cable into it...I get nothing...anyone else had this happene or have any idea about it? |
The Versa Charger is not listed as a prodyct for BlackBerries yet. When it cam out a few months ago, Boxwave responded that it does not have enough amperage capability to charge a BB and that they were working on a new product capable of a BB. When I searched Boxwave's website today for products for the BB 7290, this charger still does not show up. It will likely charge for a few seconds and then shut off until Boxwave says the new version has enough amps. |
Boxwave's website now has the Versa Charger Pro which they list as compatible with BlackBerry products sinc eit turns out 1 amp. http://www.boxwave.com/products/vers...rpro/index.htm Has anybody tried this one? |
