I believe PIN messages are "Level 1" by default. The nice thing about Level 1 messages is that you can assign a specific notification to them in profiles. So, I created a message filter that says if I get mail from certain individuals (officers of the company, my boss) I chose the option to "forward with level 1 notification". Unlike some previous phones I have had, you cannot assign ringtones to specific people or groups of people. This is as close as you can come.

Thanks for your quick response! Can you tell me how to assign specific ring tones to specific callers so I can then set up my Level One Message? Thanks!

You can not set up specific ringtones to callers.
Level one messages are for messages. Not calls.
Level one messages are set on the BWC or Desktop Manager. You can then have another alert (tone) for Level one messages through the Profiles.

SMS text messages are also Level 1 Messages.

Lidia,

You can NOT assign ringtones to specific callers. You can assign a different notification (including the ringtone) to different types of incoming communications. This is done in "Profiles". You can have a different notification for Level 1 messages, 'other' messages, SMS, the phone itself, browser messages, etc.

You can define a group of people in Email Filters. On the handheld it is in messages, options, email filters. Here you can list people in the from field that you want a differnt alert for incoming Messages, NOT PHONE CALLS. At the bottom of the filter is the option to have the message be forwarded with Level 1 notification. This is the closest one can come to what you are asking.
You can also 'edit' filters on the handheld, adding people as necessary. You can create and edut filters in the Desktop Manager, too.

Check in Desktop Manager. Open up the Redirector Settings applet and click on the filters tab. It's fairly straightforward.

Why do they call it level 1 messaging? And is there such a thing as level 2 messaging?

I am sorry if this has been answered before. I have been searching for the answer for a couple days so here is my question. Is it possible to search for only Level 1 or PIN messages. I have set up hotkey searches for the different email accounts but have not found anything to seperate PIN messages. Is this possible? Thanks

No they aren't. At least with VZW.

VZW 9650 / BES 5.0 SP2 on Notes 8.5.1

Default different ringtones - 10-23-2006, 12:13 PM

Hi,
I'm quite new using Blackberry. I've an 8700V and what I'm trying to do is to set different ringtones for email and sms. I've set from the desktop manager
for all the emails the level one and it works: when an email income I get the right ringtone, but nothing happens when an SMS arrive. In this case SMS are not recognized like "normal" message ?
