I have a BlackBerry 7280 with a broken screen. I don't have insurance on it...

what should I do? Is there a way to fix it?

From a previous post, someone mentioned they were pretty easy to swap out if you have a way of opening them and have a replacement. I've got one in my desk at work. I can see if I can pull out one of the screens if you'd like.

Is it a spectacular break? If so, post a picture of it, a broken screen is always entertaining for IT guys.

Anywho, I think that it should be pretty easy to swap out. A few screws and a snap should do the trick. But, I think that once you snap the case off of the BlackBerry, any warranty for your BB that you may or may not have had is terminated. At least, that's what I was told by the Cingular rep.

Yes, the screens are easy to swap. Find a broken BlackBerry 7210, 7230, or 7280 with an uncracked screen. These are guaranteed compatible with your 7280 (7510 screen may work too, as it is the same type).
(IMPORTANT: Don't get the 7520 or 7290 screen, these are definitely incompatible).

Swap the screens and you've got a cheap free self-repair (if you obtain a broken BlackBerry with intact screen for free), much like replacing a RAM module inside a computer. You do need is a Torx T6 screwdriver, often found in precision screwdriver sets, or simply search Google/eBay for "Torx T6"

Alternatively, new screens can be found by some online sellers for approximately $100 each. Broken BlackBerries can be found on eBay for sometimes under $100 each, but make sure it has a good screen (most broken blackberries are because of a broken screen)

Hi Guys

I know this is a very old thread but I just came across it after googling, broken screen 7290.
I have the two 7290's, one with the broken screen and the one I am going to replace it with.
I just have to go out and buy the TorkT6 screwdriver.
The question I would like to ask is.
Once I have undone the 4 plastic screws on the back of the case is there anything else I need to be careful of whilst trying to exchange the screen from one 7290 to the other?
