unrEVOked is an easy way to get SU powers but it won't let you delete the Sprint bloatware or flash custom ROM's... (there is a way to remove apps but they come right back after any reboot of the device)

A better, but more complicated method to root, is to use Toast... It will allow you to remove all the Sprint bloatware, and it will not come back.... You can also flash 2.2 or any custom ROM you choose whereas unrEVOked will not allow it..

Kathryn, Have you tried the Evernote app?

Yes. It's functionally identical to the Blackberry app. I'm a little disappointed - was hoping for something better.

About 75% of my Evernote entries come from my RSS reader. I wish I could tie the two together on the phone, but AFAIK there are no "apps for that." Also no Android browser plugins, although it would truly shock me if there were. I love the Evernote plugin for Chrome.

Speaking of apps, here are my favorite freebies so far:

Battery Widget - shows remaining battery percentage
Timeriffic - profile switcher/scheduler
Smart Shortcuts - lets you categorize your apps and web sites, and assign an icon for each category

As far as the Overclock Widget thing above, the jury is still out on whether it extends battery life. I had to use my phone way more than normal today, so I probably need a few more days of use before I'm certain it has helped me.

@LunkHead - What differences do you notice between the EVO and your Fred (Droid)? Which would you prefer and why?

@Kathrynhr - how did the Overclock Widget work for you. I tried it myself and liked the results.

Here are some pictures displaying battery usage.

From Saturday:

From Sunday:

As you can see I got easily 12 and 15 hours out of my device. This included using Sprint Navigator as well as moderate internet and phone use.

My sons has the screen separation issue that is all over the net... Mine is also having issues with network connections...

The build quality seems to be less than desirable... I am going to wait it out a week and see...

My son is def going to have to get his replaced because of the screen issue...

BUMMER...

@JS:

After more thorough testing, I'm really liking the widget. For me, it doesn't seem to make any difference when the screen is on, but it saves a lot of battery drain when it's off. Which is usually is, even when I'm on the phone or listening to music/podcasts.

I have not had any hardware issues.

Anyone else find the haptic feedback a giant PITA? One of the first things I did was disable it.

I don't mind the haptic feedback. I am interested in installing Swype on my device to try it out. I am curious how much faster typing would be. Although, I think I have adjusted to the keyboard pretty well. Still not as fast as I was on the BB, but not too far off either.

Got my sons replaced and my connections issues were solved with a Sprint refresh of my account...

So all is back to good in EVO land... Still loving it, but it has only been like 3 weeks....

Fully rooted my phone and flashed an experimental ROM yesterday (Fresh 0.3). Talk about complicated! Took +- 6 hours to accomplish. So far some minor improvements, nothing major.

Not a big fan of swipe.... I could never adapt to it... I'd rather just peck away at the keys...
