Default Using VMWare (or the like) to sync BB? - 08-01-2008, 09:15 PM

I was interested in installing a VM (in VMWare or VirtualBox) to run Windows XP and sync my BB with that Windows instance. I took VirtualBox for a spin and the VM ran great... and with seamless mode, it's almost like having the windows apps running alongside the linux ones... similar to the "coherence" mode for Macs and Parallels.

Anyways, I installed the desktop software and plugged in my BB but it did not recognize it. It did not see anything connected. Has anyone tried out this configuration? Does it work?

I've been successful getting the BB to sync using VirtualBox and a bluetooth dongle (on Ubuntu Hardy). Unfortunately, none of the VM's seem to properly handle USB pass through for the BB.

Thanks for your reply. Well, at least I know that it isn't an isolated problem. I'll keep my Windows box around at least for this reason alone.

That is great to hear! Did you have to do anything tricky to get this working?

Not at all. Just set up the bluetooth dongle in the VirtualBox settings for your XP VM, then tell DM to sync using bluetooth. Pretty straightforward setup, actually. Give it a shot, if you have any issues, hit me up.
