Default Linux + BlackBerry - 08-11-2008, 02:32 AM

Having some issues here. It's not completely necessary to be able to fix this, because I dual-boot with Windows, but I hate getting on Windows.

Okay, my first issue is that I can't charge my phone via USB while on Linux. It tells me the charge isn't good enough, or something. If someone wants the full message, I'll plug it in and check.

Also, is there a DM that I could use on Linux?

Check our Linux section here... you need the device drivers to up the power level of the USB ports.

I have been using Barry since I got my 8130 a few months ago and it works well with Ubuntu. I just downloaded the .deb packages from sourceforge.net and it works well. Although you cannot do any installing with it, it is strictly for backups/restores. There is a separate GUI package for Ubuntu and few other distros. I think they even have a new update to Barry, vers. 0.13 I believe.

Yes, the disadvantage of linux is that some times it doesn't have good drivers for newer devices or doesn't have them at all. Low power on USB under linux is definitely driver problem

Hi,

Look at Barry GIT repository and :

www . progweb . com/modules/blackberry/

You can use several features with your Blackberry device on Linux.

Regards,

Nicolas

Does charging bold need a special driver in Linux?

I just plugin my bold, then everything seams fine. I also use "lsusb -v" to check the usb port power flow. I find "MaxPower 500mA" in the RIM section. Does it mean my bold is being charged?
