Default IMAP Blackberry Sync Question - 03-18-2009, 04:54 PM

Please forgive me if someone answered this but I can't seem to find it anywhere....

I got my first BBerry today, waiting years and years since they came out thinking "No way does this thing not work with standard mail by now!"

Well....I can't seem to find a simple tutorial telling me:

1.) Which IMAP server works best with BlackBerry syncing. Even though it may be a pull thing (or maybe not I don't know), which one works Best and Closest to the BES??? Meaning...Give me a free option without having to signup for some relay service in China.

2.) Where is an overall, general Linux tutorial for getting Corporate email to work in a push-like fashion, using software I already have (or is open source)...with the Blackberry?

Again, I don't want a relay service third party, and if possible I don't want to buy BES. I don't need Instant email right now, I just need my IMAP to work Solid (even if it pulls every few minutes).

Thoughts?

Thanks.
Ted

Kerio Mail Server will work with IMAP for mail and OTA sync with contacts and calendar via built in ActiveSync.

That email server is $500. Did not answer my question.

Does anyone have an answer to this?

I thought Everything is possible for free with Linux.

I don't know about anyone else, but... I'm currently using courier-imap-ssl on my publicly-accessible IP address. Theoretically, *any* provider of IMAP will work, even Exchange's IMAP (if you don't want/need BES). Haven't found a decent contact/calendar sync solution yet, but that's primarily because, contrary to my expectations considering how well it does email, the BB's handling of calendaring is worse than my first PalmPilotPro (or even the first Pilot 1000/5000 PDAs), and coming from the Palm (and Sunbird/etc iCalendar-compatible) world, I make heavy use of categories...
