Default How Does Blackberry Handle Transferring Music? - 04-10-2008, 11:55 AM

I'm thinking of moving from iPhone to a 8120 and I was just wondering how would I get my music from iTunes (mac) onto my blackberry?

And are there playlists with automatic syncing when I delete or add to the playlist? (Like in iTunes...)

Thanks.

If there isn't, is there at least somewhat-confirmed news on this?

Thanks again.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

You transfer from PC to blackberry desktop manager which reconciles with your media card in your bb.
The main process comes from PC.
Many of us will burn itunes to a CD first.

burn the songs to a CD, then rip them from it. you can use the 8120 as a mass storage device, and just drag and drop. moved to Mac users corner

Or you could just send it via bluetooth, too.

So there's no syncing solution now or coming out that anyone knows about? Lets say I delete a few songs from a playlist in iTunes and I want to delete it off of my BBerry...

I would have to manually find the songs on the BBerry and delete them instead of one quick sync like in iTunes...

You might have noted we are in a Macintosh forum.

Using Missing Sync for the Mac, one simply chooses the iTunes playlist you want to have sync with your Blackberry, then do it via the USB cable. Missing sync doesn't seem to do squat via bluetooth, and since RIM hasn't done any apparent work with Apple for iSync (at least in Tiger) to get that functional, don't waste your time. I'm uncertain if Pocketmac will do it. The install of PM I tried said it could do a lot of things, but never worked in Leopard 10.5.2. Not with the address book, iCal, or Now Up-to-date. Missing sync did fine for iTunes, iCal and Addressbook in Leopard.

You can also send macintosh ideas to RIM directly. I doubt they read these boards. A lot of tech companies tend to live inside their own little bubble and never dare venture out into real-world situations. Maybe it is different with Windows, as they still have just a hair over 90% of the market for computers that might interface with RIM products.

email RIM with your requests and concerns: [email address]

Let them know the boards you read (send them URLs), and the problems you have -- be it with their interface, their OS, the lack of support for bluetooth on the Mac, the lack of a desktop manager for the Mac, or whatever. Give them ideas on how to improve their applications, their interface, or whatever. If they don't do anything, they simply concede the market to the iPhone. Maybe they already have given up.

But give them a chance to see that we have needs that are going unfulfilled and they have a marketing and technology void to fill. It's called opportunity -- and if RIM doesn't want it, others like that fruit company will certainly find a way to accept more money from the likes of me in the future. Right now, I use my Blackberry because it represents a move away from AT&T -- but if I had known just how ignored Macs were on the BB front, I would have just waited for the 3G iPhone. I certainly will not recommend a BB to any customers or work colleagues at this point.

RIM -- I look forward to being proven wrong. Before the 3G iPhone is released. Even I can swallow my pride and be grateful. Or I can swallow my pride, eBay my Pearl, pay the fee to get out of a contract and get a 3G iPhone

You cannot have enough backups but you can have too few.
Pearl 8120, OS v4.3.0.72; PB G4 867, OS 10.5.2, USB -- useless BT thx to RIM .

No pain, no gain or nothing ventured, nothing gained.

That's the problem with Mac users. We are so accustomed to things just working properly the first time -- we don't fight with IRQs. Our interface is generally not a hodgepodge of ideas cobbled together -- it's almost as if things were thought out. Oh, it's not perfect by any stretch, but our machines don't generally get in the way of us getting work done. The whole point is for it to really be painless.

Weird concept, I know

RIM really doesn't think like that. I'm not impressed with this product at all.

Default 8820 and the missing sync - 05-05-2008, 01:25 PM

Downloaded 14 day demo version from apple.com, my 2 gb microSD media card finally came in over the weekend and set up to do three separate syncs:

1. first did a sync address book and calendar....took two times to get calendar right.
2. second, iTunes - set up list titled BB8820 and moved about 1 gb of music over....flawless.
3. last - had to rip updated iPhoto v.5.0, do install and then exported (did not check off import) a few photos to media card. Again successful.

With media card still mounted on desktop, dragged over a bunch of 'ringtones' from my old Treo and yet to test them yet.

The missing sync passed all tests and I'll probably fork over $39.99 for full version

Btw, if all you want is transfer music, as long as you have adapter to mount the media card to desktop, a simple drag and drop from iTunes directly to media card will also work just fine and no need to sync with the missing sync. (same for photos, files, whatever)

Default what about the PC? - 05-09-2008, 12:12 AM

Does anyone have a solution similiar for the PC...the software that comes with the blackberry comes close, but not quite.

I want to be able to add/delete within iTunes and have that mimicked on my Pearl.

Just like it sounds like Missing Sync does for Mac.

mbuck, welcome to the BBForums.

Your BB will not sync your iTunes, sorry.

Thanks. I know it won't directly sync, but there's gotta be a way to make it work with software...I am getting close with SyncMyPortable...it will add and delete the songs within my playlists but I'm having a tough time getting it to add the actual playlist.
