Default Blackberry Curve 8330 + Verizon + Mac - 05-20-2008, 12:54 PM

I have read many threads about the capabilities of the new Curve with Verizon on a Mac.

However, I feel like I have become more and more confused the more I read about scripts and additional fees for Verizon customers.

Could someone just briefly outline all of the capabilities of a MacBook Pro user, with a new Curve 8330 with Verizon service? Both Bluetooth capabilities and wired would be great. Thanks!

I am new to the Blackberry platform, coming from a Motorola Q, and any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Default Blackberry Curve 8330 and Mac and Verizon - 05-27-2008, 10:22 PM

Looks like you and I are looking for similar answers...I just purchased a Curve 8330 and can't manage to sync it to my Mac with latest OS. Do you know if PocketMac for Bberry is compatible with a Curve 8330? Have you ever successfully run a sync? I am about to go back to the Verizon store and get a different model because the Curve 8330 was not listed in the PocketMac tutorial as compatible with the software. Any help much appreciated! J

So I got my 8830 last week and I have a MacBook. Pocket Mac is a free sync service (I couldn't get it to recognize my 8830 though) whereas Missing Sync from MarkSpace you have to pay for. Its a better service (sync's better, more updates, quick response from developer, music sync...). The only additional monthly payment for VZW is if you plan on using your BB as a modem for your computer. This is an extra $15 a month. If you dont plan on using it as a modem - you dont have to pay it. It works great, one of the best phones I have had. Shoot me an email if you need more help and I will do what I can!

Never knew one could sync my Mac(1.83 Intel Core Duo)
with my BlackBerry (8100 Pearl).

HOW do you sync them?

Is PocketMac reliable? ANY chance it will crash my Blackberry?

I currently have different CONTACT info on my home computer, than those on my Blackberry. Will one set be deleted? How does one figure all of this out?

The tethering price depends on your current data pricing. I hear that if you have the 29.99 plan, tethering will cost you 30.00 whereas the 44.99(?) data plan will only cost you 15.00 for tethering.

There was a thread going on about this on HoFo, I have a seperate broadband card, so i quickly scanned through the thread.

PocketMac deleted all my iCal events, yet kept them on my BlackBerry but refused to put them back on. So naturally, I tossed it. Now that I have a free copy of Missing Sync (review), I love it. That, and it actually WORKS!

I recently purchased an 8330 from verizon. The phone syncs normally with my imac running 10.5 and using the driver updated version of pocketmac. The odd thing is that pocketmac still thinks it's syncing with my precious 8703e. But regardless it still syncs perfectly.

I did a search and came across this

Well i have a solution via Blackberry Tech Support.

Basically what you have to do is follow these steps:
Go To:
>Macintosh HD
>System
>Library
>Extensions
>Delete the files called "BlackberryUSB.kext" and "BlackberryUSBDev.kext"
>Empty the Trash
>Re-Install the driver updates from the Blackberry Website
>Restart Comp
>Plug in the BB first
>Go to the PocketSync APP
>Click on the BB icon.

after that you should see it say Blackberry and list the devices pin

Apparently what the flaw is, is that the program doesnt actually update the drivers for some reason so you have to go into the folders and delete the old ones before installing the new ones.

Hope this helps

Default I had to take drastic measures w/ Verizon - 01-06-2009, 07:14 PM

They have told me twice now that their phones sync with Mac OSX. I have had nothing but problems.

The first phone was a Treo 755p, the next one is currently a Blackberry 8330 Curve.

I have spent upwards of 13 hours fooling with their customer service numbers (Verizon and Blackberry) and have had no luck whatsoever. I have a last-generation MacBookPro about 8 months old. There is no reason whatsoever that these two devices should not sync. Specifically, the contacts do not sync.

Because of this utter waste of time and energy on my part and realizing that the definition of insanity is "completing the same action over and over and expecting a different result", I had to go to "the dark side".

As a result, I created the site

verizonhatesmacusers.com

Maybe they will start to talk to their vendors about the products that they are delivered, as in making sure that the pieces of hardware can actually DO WHAT THEY SAY.

Thanks for listening. It's been very frustrating.

Hi guys...
Yes, Missing Sync is painless and works pretty well. I used the first time without meaning to - just plugged in my BlackBerry Curve with USB and it launched the desktop program, and since all my contacts are backed up on my iPod Touch, I hit ''Sync'' with Contacts selected and in less than 10 minutes it had reconciled the accts and transferred the data.

I then told it to remove duplicates from the Address Book on the computer.

Worth the $40.

I installed PocketMac and synced my 8330 right away. The next time I tried to synch, PocketMac got hung up. So I canceled PM and restarted it. It got hung up again. After I gave up, I launched Address Book and noticed that it killed about 20% of my contacts. Yippie. After I restored the missing contacts, I installed the Desktop Manager on my crappy PC and synced my contacts from there. I only sync my iCal on my Mac now. Stupid. JLS

My wife and I have been using a program called Spanning Sync with our Macbooks. Basically Spanning Sync will sync your Mac address book and calendar with Google, then I use Google Mobile sync on my Verizon 8330 to sync to my blackberry. It works flawlessly and is wireless. You can make a change anywhere and it will update in all three places. Only issue I had was spanning sync is kind of expensive but worth the cost in my opinion because it always works. Google mobile sync is free. When I first started I synced from my Macbook to an empty Google account then to an empty phone to avoid any duplicates (don't know if that was necessary). There used to be a free trial of spanning sync, don't know if that's still the case, but I gave it a try first to see if it would work. I never had much luck with Pocketmac or Missing sync, probably my own fault. Hope this helps someone.
