My dad and I ordered a Macbook Pro last night as my graduation gift for college next year. I thought maybe some of you could give me a few tips for transferring my blackberry information over (I already put all of my backups onto my external harddrive) to my new computer.

Things like the latest OS, ect.

Another question I had was bluetooth connection between my phone and my Mac. I know it's possible, but I wanted to know how many of you use it, and if its worth using rather then plugging it in (as in is it worth charging it while it transfers data).

Any other tips and tricks would be cool too.

So I am guessing that you are coming from a pc. I do have to commend you on choosing a Macbook Pro. its and awesome machine. As far as your backups the only way you can use them is through the Desktop manager through windows. You can use bootcamp to load windows but once you start using os x you probably wont want to use windows anymore. There are a couple of different programs to sync your information. PocketMac came with my curve and you can sync (both mac and blackberry) using it. As far as bluetooth is concerned, its one of the only ways that people have been able to connect their handhelds as a modem. Good luck

No, you can't.
OS upgrades can only be done from a Windows machine using Desktop Manager.

I'll second that! I got my MacBook Pro from work and love it, once my personal Macbook dies, I will upgrade!

I am using Missing Sync from Markspace on Leopard, I am still within my trial period and will more than likely spend the money for it. Very stable and I had no issues getting it going. I am using iCal/Address Book

Not sure if you can tether with Verizon, but it works fine with Sprint via Bluetooth. Missing Sync is your best bet for contacts/calendar, but I use VMWare to run Windows for BlackBerry Desktop so I can upgrade BB OS, run backups, etc.

Congrats on going with Mac. Life is better here ;) As for BB support on OS X, it's abysmal. I wonder how many people work at RIM that they can't even put $100 towards R&D for Mac support. Pathetic. If I had known how shitty their OS X support was, I might not have got a BB... iPhone looks nicer everyday ;)

Blitz, i have a MacBook that I keep a windows partition on. I use either BootCamp or Fusion to run windoze xp to back-up and update my Pearl. I also tether through BT to verizon and I use MissingSync to keep everything same-same all around. I did find that if I tether my BB via usb and try to use VZ Access Manager, it disables the Missing Sync USB, and vice-versa.

For me, there are (unfortunately) a few programs I need that are windoze based, so I need to keep a partition. Have both worlds available in one machine is really great!

If you still use Linux, just set that computer up to dual boot with Windows. That is what I do. My Mac Mini is my main PC, but I still have my old PC set up to dual boot for those rare instances I need Windows.

Totally. Not to mention that PocketMac was garbage to begin with. How about updating the UI and adding all the features that support your phone? Then again, why did they feel the need to just buy some 3rd rate product? Did they lose their SDKs? Seriously how hard would it have been to fire up Interface Builder and make a simple solution to support your product on a completely viable OS?

What good is hardware if you can't use it? I am confused why RIM continues to shun Macs, especially when their global presence is doubling annually... When did they buy PM? 2005? Damn...
