Angry Missing Sync Error...Getting VERY frustrated.

Please Login to Remove!

I'm about to just give up. After spending forever organizing my contacts and calendars and getting rid of a bunch of duplicate entries, Missing Sync decided to quit working. I've done a battery pull and have restarted my Mac, but I'm still getting this error...

Starting sync at 9/26/08 4:37 PM...
BlackberryUSBDevice::openUSBInterface
Error communicating with device. USBInterfaceOpen failed (e00002c5).
BlackberryUSBDevice: dealloc
Synchronization cancelled due to error. Could not connect to device.

I tried syncing with PocketMac and it worked, but PocketMac kinda sucks and doesn't even sync everything correctly. I want to use Missing Sync.

Any ideas?

If you install PocketMac, Missing Sync won't connect and vice versa. Uninstall PocketMac or reinstall Missing Sync and then Missing Sync should connect. See this KB:

I thought that might be the case, but then I figured that made no sense. Weird. I'm going to uninstall PocketMac, so hopefully I'll be able to get everything back to normal with Missing Sync again.

Thank you, and cross your fingers for me. ;)

Okay, Missing Sync is working again, but I'm no less frustrated. After syncing, all my efforts to get rid of duplicate entries failed. Now I have to start all over.

If you have duplicates on both the Mac and BlackBerry, best to try cleaning up the Mac side and then do a Mac overwrite sync.

Address Book has a Look for duplicates feature under the Card menu. For iCal this application works good for removing duplicates:

I was able to get everything all cleaned up in iCal and overwrote the Blackberry calendar. HOWEVER, all of the events in iCal that are all day events are now showing up on my Blackberry as starting at 4AM the day before they actually take place and ending at 4AM on the day they are supposed to happen.

That makes no sense. I could edit all the events on my Blackberry so they are all day events on the correct days, but then when I do a sync, I'm just going to end up with duplicate entries with incorrect times again.

I've been googling the 4AM thing with no luck. All I know is I didn't have this problem with 4.2. *sigh*

Actually, the more I look at my Blackberry calendar after overwriting it, everything is starting to make even LESS sense. Some all day events stayed as all day events. Others start the day before at 4AM. A few start the day before at 5AM, and there are even some that start the day before at 11PM. There's absolutely no method to the madness.

hmm, interesting...

Mark/Space Users • View topic - iCal All Day Events = 8AM to 8PM on phone

Assume you are also running Leopard on the Mac. In these situations, would say make sure all the Time zone settings are correct first. Mac in the Date and Time pref pane. Also, in iCal > Preferences, turn on Time Zone support to verify the correct zone is set. Lastly verify the time zone setting on the BlackBerry.

If those are all set correctly and the problem remains, do a reset of Sync Services and then do a Mac overwrite sync one more time:

1. Go to iCal and click the 'File' menu and choose 'Back up iCal'
2. Now revert to the same database you just backed up, click on the 'File' menu and choose 'Restore iCal'
3. Do the same process for Address Book click the 'File' menu and choose 'Export - Address Book Archive'
4. Now revert to the same database you just backed up, click on the 'Import' menu and choose 'Address Book Archive'

Steps 1 through 4 are key to the process, they are not just a backup, but the revert part forces a reset of the relationship between Sync Services and iCal and Address Book.

5. Launch the iSync application, found in the /Applications/ folder. (iSync is not used for the sync, but iSync is where Apple handles Sync Services Preferences.)
6. Click on the iSync menu
7. Choose Preferences
8. Click the 'Reset Sync History' button. Read and follow the onscreen directions.
9. This may or may not launch iCal. When the reset process has begun the button will go grey, it is complete when the button becomes active again, but there is no need to re-click it.
10. Restart the Mac
11. Soft reset your BlackBerry. Turn it off, pull the battery for 3 minutes, put it back and turn on.
12. In Missing Sync for BlackBerry, double click the Calendar plugin and reselect the calendar for the field: "Put events created on the device into:"
13. In Missing Sync for BlackBerry, double click the Tasks plugin and reselect the calendar for the field: "Put Tasks created on the device into:"

Then, try the overwrite sync again.

p.s. There is also a setting in Missing Sync preferences to set the device clock on sync, that may be worth trying as well.

Okay, it looks as though the overwrite went well. All the events on my Blackberry now coincide with iCal. I also did a regular sync and no duplicates appeared on my Blackberry or in iCal. THANK YOU!!!

The bad news, though, I've now lost all of my contacts other than my five myFaves and a couple others. Earlier, before going through all the steps you just posted, I deleted all the contacts on my Mac, hoping to replace them with the ones on my Blackberry. When I just tried doing the sync, it erased all of my contacts from my Blackberry except for my five myFaves and a couple random ones, and it only copied a few of the remaining contacts over to my Mac. Oh well. :(

Glad its working. Sorry about losing the contacts. If you upgraded your BlackBerry OS from 4.2 to 4.5, the BlackBerry Desktop Manager would normally create a complete backup of your BlackBerry. You could selectively restore the Address Book database.

Yeah...lol...that's where it gets even more funny.
How can I get the myFaves app back on my Blackberry?

In the end, I had to borrow a friend's PC. When I was all done, I uninstalled the desktop manager, all files associated with upgrade, and the backup. The only existing backup is several months old and on my husband's laptop, and he's in Japan until March.

It's okay though. All I was really concerned with was the calendar, and you were able to help me fix that. I appreciate it so much!
