I'm predicting September or October. Software NEVER comes out on schedule, regardless of who is making it. My Lord knows that I hope I'm wrong, but I bet it will be third quarter before we see it.

Considering how long Mac users have been without support, I guess a few more months won't hurt.

What you are all telling me that there is no point in putting the "BlackBerry User Tool app" on my iBook,OS 9 hard drive? Is there some other old computer I could pick out of the garbage for my BB/PC uses? What should I look for? Obviously I'm not too savvy.

I just switched from the Curve to the Storm, and when I saw that the Blackberry User Tools disc didn't have any OS specific messages written on it, I decided to pop it into my iMac and see what came up. I was thrilled to see a Mac application, but after transferring Blackberry User Tool.app to my applications directory and running it, I was extremely disappointed to see that the application is nothing more than a blank screen. What gives?

PocketMac "was" the application that should have been there... I think you can probably still get it for free on their website.... HOWEVER...

I would recommend using Missing Sync by a company MarkSpace - you can find them with a few w's before and a dot com after their name. Their product is by FAR superior, and much more reliable. If you search other forum posts, you'll see I'm not the only one who feels this way. I used to use PocketMac, and it was not reliable IMHO.

I know the a new version of Missing Sync is coming out soon, but you'll be fine with the current version, I'm sure - they'll likely give a free update to those who purchased just prior to the upgrade.

Regarding RIM/BlackBerry's software, I too am hoping that this comes out soon; however I've been waiting for this for years! In the meantime, I have business to do, and the most viable choice is Missing Sync.

Good luck.

I was already using Missing Sync with my Curve, which I tested out earlier, and it still works fine with my Storm. I was just confused as to why Blackberry User Tool.app loads nothing more than a blank screen.

Why on earth does RIM promote PocketMac when everyone knows Missing Sync is better? *sigh*

The Mac market share is pushing up towards 10%, stopping and reversing years of relative declines. This should finally get the attention of companies like RIM and convince them the Mac OS is not some fringe operating system, but rather a strong customer base of loyal consumers. Give us a native solution and you'll win big loyalty points. That translates into $ales, and repeat $ales too! It's been reported in study after study that the average Mac user tends to spend more money than the average pc user. We're just a bunch of consumer whores™ I guess.

I have my doubts about any timetable I hear, but that's just because having been a Mac user for so long I'm used to being disappointed by stuff like this. I'll keep my fingers crossed, of course, but I will remain a sceptic until I'm happily installing Blackberry Desktop Software for Mac.

+1 on this! We had to buy an extra PC just to get the BlackBerry hooked up

So the question now is--is it still good to get Missing Sync v2?

Default Enourageon MAC & Pocket Mac - 02-15-2009, 09:41 AM

I don't get what the fuss is about. I am happily running MacBook Pro (never had a PC in my whole life), and Pocket Mac is reliably syncing with my BOLD, just as it was with my Curve before it. Emails, Calendar, iTunes, Pics, bookmarks.

What am I missing? What more do you guys need?

I actually bought Missing Sync, but I abandoned it, as it doesn't sync email sent from BB to "Send" folder on the Mac, and the notes from BB have to be synchronized to a separate Mark/Space app... PocketMac is much more elegant, IMHO

I have been waiting a year and a half for this. My Verizon contract is up this fall. At this point RIM may have lost me to ATT and an iPhone.

Those of us for whom PocketMac and/or Missing Sync work are in the minority. Newer Macs often gag of either of those programs, leaving users with the choice of either buying a pc (I keep an old ThinkPad around for this) or running Windows through VMware or Boot Camp. It would be so sweet to simply plug my BB into my Mac and update the software, no fuss no muss.

Although most of the people around here think I "know computers," I'm very much a novice, so please excuse me if my ignorance shows. My office just switched to Mac and I have a brand spanking new MacBook with the latest OSX. Do I gather from this thread that there isn't a good program available for linking my Pearl with the calendar and contacts on my Mac? I do plan to load Windows XP via bootcamp or Virtual Box because I don't want to spend $1000 on Mac versions of Adobe CS. What do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Love the Mac by the way.

First, try downloading and installing PocketMac. It's free, and if it works for you it will probably work well. It always has for me, but then I do have an older Mac (PowerMac G4 Dual Processor, from 2002).

Next would be to pay for Mark/Space's Missing Sync. Folks that have had no luck with PocketMac have gotten great results with this one. Unfortunately it appears there is no free trial, which would be nice considering it's $40 and doesn't seem to work for everyone.

Last step would be to use Boot Camp or VMware on your Mac, run Windows through that, and use the regular Blackberry Desktop Software.

Thanks Rambo. I'll start with PocketMac and hope for the best.

Have you heard of Virtual Box. Supposedly a freeware that does the same thing as VMware and Parallels?

I have VirtualBox and it runs quite well for me. I personally think VMware is better, but not "better enough" for me to buy a new copy when I switched to a new Mac. I would definitely suggest that you try VirtualBox before VM or Parallels so you can hopefully save a few bucks. At worst you can delete it with no harm done!

I don't know. I had trouble doing a backup with Parallels. Suddenly DTM got disconnected and couldn't recognize my device.

I've done an update since then and gone back to .75 via PC. I may try it again now that I have a backup on the PC - Just in case anything goes wrong. Whenever RIM releases the new official version I'll give it a try.

Edit: Got a laugh out of the shot of the Dell in the background. Not taking any chances, huh?

I remember reading elsewhere on this forum that VMWare works much better than Parallels.

I have VMWare running on my MacBookPro 17" with Windows XP as the OS on the Virtual Machine. I have successfully done my backups as well as an OS upgrade on my Bold.

My 2 Cents.

The problem you may run into is with activation. Windows will want you to activate it, and if you have already activated that license on a PC you may run into problems (unless you have a valid product key).

If you install XP from the Dell disc on a non-Dell machine that doesn't have the license key, you will still have 30 days to use it, before the OS is rendered non-functional. This should be more than enough for your purposes.

Edit: If you still have that old Dell, the license key should be on the OEM sticker.
