Default Sync 8830 w/ Outlook via Bluetooth using VMWare - 08-21-2009, 02:44 PM

I recently downloaded Blackberry's Desktop Manager 5.0 onto Windows XP, which is run on my Macbook Pro via a virtual machine using the VM Ware Fusion program. I have Outlook 2003 installed and am able to sync my Blackberry flawlessly using a USB connection. However, this sync method is slow and time consuming, and must be reinitiated every time I make a change to Contacts or Calendar on either my Blackberry 8830 World Edition or Outlook. Does anyone have step-by-step instructions on how to sync using Bluetooth instead? Currently VM Ware recognizes my Apple USB Host Controller, but the Blackberry Desktop Manager does not pick it up. Any help on fixing this is appreciated.

While I am not a Mac user and thus cannot comment on any issues that are specific to that platform, I can say two things:

1. Most PC users find that a Bluetooth sync is slower than a USB sync.

2. Updates to calender, etc., will not be automatic with a wireless Bluetooth sync. Once you get it connected, you would still have to initiate a sync using Desktop Manager.

I realize that this is not directly addressing your question regarding how to set up a BT sync, but it does go to the heart of what I suspect are your objectives.

Thanks djm2, your response indirectly answers my question. If it's that much of a pain I'll just stick with the USB option. I really appreciate it.

Moved to a more appropriate forum.

Try using either MobileMe or Google to keep your BB calendar and contacts in sync.

I use Thunderbird for email and Lightning for calendar on my MacBook Pro and sync calendar data using GoogleSync. It keeps the laptop, BB, and office desktop, home desktop and wife's desktop all up to date.
