Nice!
Um... going through the motions at www.blackberry.com, I don't see it. I only see links to PocketMac. Odd...

Its also odd that the facebook post has gone too.
Perhaps someone at the Blackberry FB page shouldn't have posted it!
It had only been posted for about 10 minutes when I found it.
Had quite a few "so and so likes this post"
And 2 minutes after posting this thread, its removed.

I warned folks about avoiding the beta that's floating around, but every day that goes by without the Mac Desktop Manager released tempts me to give it a try. I'm hanging tough for now, but if I show up here whining about it, you know the pressure got to me.

I hear you... but this is not Beta, version says 1.0.0 build 75
As I stated on other thread, I have it working now with no problems whatsoever on two different configurations...
tempting, tempting..
And you KNOW that by "September" RIM actually meant mid-November

We're not talking about the same thing. You are using "Pocket Mac", which is a piece of crap and we all gave up on it long time ago.
We're discussing here Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac, which is supposed to be officially released this month but isn't yet. I am giving examples of "leaked" version which is available on certain sites for download

Don't blame me if you don't have the guts to try version 1.0.0.
Wait, letme plug my BOLD to my MacBookPro, I just added some contacts in Entourage, so I might as well sync while I'm talking to you ( )
Ah, well, done already.

And more:
Installation automatically adds new network device called "BlackBerry-yourpinnumber". I guess it is for tethering internet, but I can't get it to work. it is by default CDMA, but even when switching it to GSM, all it does is dial #777 on my Bold. Sure few calls to my telco would sort this out, but I don't really have a need for it.
Backup works well also, with applications coming back in the wrong places and having to re-authorize them, but that's what's restoring from the backup on the PC is like too, right?
But for unofficial installing of OS updates, we will still be needing PCs around, won't we. I don't see telecoms offering downloadable .app versions.
To "Wild Hog" - no sour milk or scissors for me please, although sometimes when I install beta versions and I get nervous, I stick my hands under my arms, and then I smell my fingers - like that.

Hell of a second post though!
Did we ever get a concrete explanation for why the software was pulled? I've still not heard anything definitive from my (limited) contacts. And nothing better than "coming soon" as far as when we can expect this little ray of sunshine in the vast darkness that is our lives.

No idea, but the girlfriend and I got hit with a double-whammy. I had told her that I would update the OS on her Bold when DM for Mac was released, and so it gets released, retracted, and the OS gets pulled. *sigh*

Come on - read the post first. PEBKAB followed up with a dash of MFTP.

If I had to guess it's the problems with Snow Leopard that many people are reporting. I have to admit I still hold my breath for a while every time I plug BOLD and it auto-syncs. You know, expecting some error message or something weird. My experience with new DM has been too good to be true, after all these years of pocket Mac, Missing Sync, Fusion...
But now I am holding on SL upgrade until RIM goes official.

I had to uninstall DTM because it would not sync calendars properly for me, but for those who still have it can someone try to run the updater? I know we had build 75 and someone testing it told me that it was now up to build 83 or something. I'm wondering if the "check for updates" will bring the latest version, which supposedly is solid. If so I may reinstall and update.
At the same time, maybe my memory is failing and there isn't an update option at all, but I seem to remember one in preferences or under one of the menus. If I'm wrong I'm sorry.

and then they wonder about their falling sales? Have a look at today's ZDnet news article about their recent performance that said:
Quote:
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion on Thursday said it sold fewer BlackBerry phones than analysts had expected and that the company's quarterly earnings were hurt by a legal settlement.
Although RIM still saw strong sales of BlackBerry devices, the news sent the company's stock price tumbling in after-market trading.
|
see news.zdnet.co.uk/itmanagement/0,1000000308,39773916,00.htm
Whilst the legal settlement must have hurt, the fall from predicted sales in a market where others are seeing more sales than predicted says something more. Funny that the main competition of iPhone and Android fully support Mac out-of-the-box isn't it?
Will RIM ever get it? The world is not just the USA and desktops aren't only Microsoft.

Yes, those 8% of the population buying Macs are causing RIM's stock to fall. The global economy has nothing to do with it.
I am constantly amazed at the power of the Apple Marketing Machine. 8% becomes a majority.

I wonder how Apple's stock is doing? Hmmm... Mac users aren't solely responsible for RIM's stock, but it is reflective of RIM's overall modis.
Oh, and 8% is still hundreds of millions of machines. I'm always amazed at the Microsoft math in assuming Mac's are irrelevant as a customer base for software and other developers.
Regarding the date change, here is the latest. How irritating is this?
