I believe you would click on the APPLICATIONS button on the top right.

Your OS software...? from your carrier, OR in the yellow sticky notes at the top of EACH of the device sections of this forum.

No different than Windows or Apple or any other software vendor out there. Name one that consistently hits their timelines.

This is not easy unless rim decides to distribute the SW in a different package.
Currently, this is a setup-launcher from Macrovision.
To extract, you have to use a Windows OS (maybe, wine is ok)

After installation, you find the firmware files in:
\Programs\Shared Files\Research in Motion\Shared\loader files

If you copy that into the (currently unknown folder) where the online update which bbdm puts the files into, you should be able to perform an update.

MY guess is, this folder might be in ~/Library/Application Support/BlackberryDesktop/????

To find that out, you could use an old, spare blackberry which you know an official updat exists, then run the online update and search, where the loader files have been downloaded to on your disk.

For now, the Mac Desktop Software has to download the update itself. You cannot use anybody's software for your model like with the Windows BB client. The Mac version will update when it sees an official update from your specific carrier for your specific device. Until then, if you still want to update you need to go Windows, either on a pc or through an emulator like VMware, Boot Camp, etc. Just don't try to use Parallels as the screwy USB implementation will cause it to fail.

Will this be different if your BB is unlocked? In other words, if my T-mo BB is unlocked, will it still download the latest t-mo update and install when it is available?

This is not correct. I have downloaded .rar files of hybrid OSs. Expended them and put the folder in:

user>Library>Application Support>BlackberryDeskTop>Device Applications

then I followed the steps in this link
