Default How do you download system software using a MAC? - 05-22-2006, 04:14 PM

Just wondering if anyone knows if pocket mac allows you to download new system software for Blackberry. Also, does pocket mac allow you to back up your Blackberry? If not, is there any way to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance.

Sync yes, back-up and load software, apps etc. no. You need a PC or an Intel Mac running Boot Camp.

Thanks for the reply. How have you guys been updating system software or downloading 3rd party apps? This limited MAC support really sucks.

or an Intel Mac running Parallels Desktop....

This allows one to launch a WinXP or Win2000 window within OSX instead of rebooting with BootCamp. BootCamp seems to be better for gaming and any other functions where native performance is needed. I won't use Parallels until this weekend but from everything that I have read its virtualization performance is impressive.

I played with a MacBook running Linux thru Parrallels yesterday - works very well. I have yet to see one with XP on it though, I am anxious to see/hear some speed results.

Any idea if the Parallels software will have the same problems as the virtual pc with not reading the COM ports or something? I don't know the exact problem but read on here that it doesn't work bwith virtual pc... I don't know much about that software either (obviously other than b/c of the intel chip it runs better) but will it work with parallels?

Blackberry Desktop Manager will work with Parallels. I have installed it. It has problems at the moment due to USB incompatability but it will eventually work.

Well then I guess that's even more reason to upgrade to a new macbook or macbook pro...

I've got a MacBook Pro, and use XP via Bootcamp to load my applications and backup my Blackberry. Bootcamp is amazing! It's great to be able to go from mac osx to Windows xp in about a minute or less!

I messed around with Boot Camp and Windows XP Home running on Parallels today at the Mac Store - very cool. Boot Camp XP was a bit more fluid and stable, but Parallels XP was still very quick and steady. VERY impressive. I am so eager to get my black MacBook!
