Which scripts folder did you copy it into? The one at the root of your hard drive, or the one in your Home folder? It needs to be in the former, not the latter.

Don't know what to do.
Post a snippet of your Connection Log (Window -> Connection Log in the menu bar of Internet Connect). It'll help with debugging.

My script didn't output that log information. Check which Modem Script you have selected in your Bluetooth modem configuration - I'm guessing it's not BlackBerry 8100.

Default Blackberry Pearl on a mac with Cingular Blue - At&t - 02-15-2007, 03:06 AM

Blackberry Pearl on a mac with Cingular Blue - At&t
After many hours of tweeking and figuring out, I came up with a working connection over Cingular blue (at&t) for those of us who are still on the charter plan etc.
The settings at the begininng of the thread all hold true, the only thing is that for the phone number we put the correct APN info for at&t which is "proxy" We are supposed to leave the username and password blank, but for some reason this hangs the internet connection on the mac. I found that by simply putting a space " " in the username and password we are able to connect! I hope this might help someone out there!!!

Wow.. I'm still amazed at the speed.. It's fricken slow. A friend of mine has the 8525 and we are both on the Cingular Network and he gets faster speeds via bluetooth.

Does your friend have a high-speed data plan? the 8525's HSDPA is quite a bit faster than the EDGE data supported by the 8100.

I'm not 100% sure, but he's getting like 400k a sec.. that's definitely a lot better than the 100 or so that I get on this thing.. Kinda disappointing actually.

Yep, that's HSDPA - 3G data. EDGE's theoretic max speed is around 256kbps, so even under ideal conditions you'll be hard-pressed to get half of what he's getting. On the other hand, I'm guessing you're paying a lot less for your data plan.

Thanks, ggoodale, for your excellent work! I'm going to be traveling and don't have dial-up access, but this works perfectly for me.

8800
Cingular, er, AT&T (or whatever it is this week)
MacBookPro

It works for me too. Seems to disconnect often, but then sometimes it stays connected. May be more to do with where I am than anything else as this is Cingu... AT&T.

Mostly used when the Comcast "Highspeed" takes a dump or if I'm mobile. Both which seem to happen a lot.

I disable Bluetooth when I'm not using it as it seems to drain the battery.

I used the Ask Dave as a guide.

Speakeasy

The setup's the same, but your friend will want to use the following settings for Rogers:
  • APN: goam.com
  • Username: wapuser1
  • Password: wap

Default Using it on an 8700g upgraded to 4.2 - 04-18-2007, 10:50 PM

I got 168 Kbps with DSLresports.com speed test

I upgraded to 4.2 (see the 8700 general hardware forum). Used the modem script and followed the instructions in this thread and it worked!

Hmm. Guess I'm glad I didn't try to write an 8700-specific solution after all. Looks like the recurring revenue from Pulse might be lower that expected.

I just installed 4.2.1 on my 8700c and installed your script. It works great! Even faster than the USB tether with my Windows laptop.

Default 8800 with USB? - 05-03-2007, 12:34 PM

This works great - bluetooth with Cingular to my 8800. However, I can't find a script/howto for USB. I assume its faster so perhaps worth a try. Anyone know?

USB doesn't work with the Mac as far as I know - writing a USB driver is a bit harder than writing a bluetooth modem script. However, I doubt you'd pick up much speed, even if such a driver existed; the theoretical max speed for EDGE is still well below the practical top speed for Bluetooth.

Which script and what connection settings did you use exactly? I'm having trouble getting it to work on mine.

Default Cingular plan - 05-06-2007, 05:52 PM

I originally did not pay for the internet plan on my BB. The phone says "Data connection refused" at the top. I followed the steps mentioned to have my Macbook/BB Bluetooth connection all ready to go before my trip to Cingular to turn on the extra internet access, then on a whim I tried the connection before going and it worked. Sorry for my ignorance, but is this just using minutes on my regular plan or am I going to get hit with some crazy charges on my next bill? Connection works pretty well by the way. It is a bit slow and kicks me off every once-in-a-while, but is better than nothing. Thanks.

I'd say this is the right place. I updated the title of my first post to reflect 8700/8800 support, but for some reason the thread itself wasn't renamed.

I assume restarting your BlackBerry doesn't help? Mind turning on Verbose Logging and posting the section of log generated when you try to connect? If your Bluetooth connection shows up in System Preferences -> Network, select it and click the 'Configure...' button. Click the 'PPP Options...' and check 'Use Verbose Logging'.

Hmm. Looking at that, Cingular's head-end equipment isn't responding to your BlackBerry at all. A suggestion: try connecting via isp.cingular / [email address] and see if you get the same result.

I am having the same issue (the connection worked the first time, but not anymore). The Log window has the same messages as Scurvey Dog and I get an error stating that Connection Manager cannot get a response from the PPP server.

My details:
T-Mobile (I have wap.voicestream.com set in the phone number field)
Username: guest/guest
8700g
Handheld software is 4.2.1.85
OS X 10.4.9

Everything else is setup the way the instructions state.
