Default Pearl OS 4.2.1.102 gives higher upload speeds when tethered to OS X! - 03-17-2007, 05:39 PM

Just a note for everyone using the Fibble.org modem script for tethering a Pearl with their Mac.

Here is the link to the update thread:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...y-release.html

I installed it last night, and today I tethered to my Macbook, and did a few speed tests. I'm on Tmobile, and normally through the Speakeasy speed tests I get around 110 down/8 up. But now I'm getting 120 down/ and 17-20 up!

This update seems to have helped a lot. 20 isn't stellar, but its quite good for EDGE, and an improvement by a factor of two from before.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Peace,
Sam

You might want to check your settings or something....I just got 220 down/45 up on a Speakeasy test with Tmo EDGE. Your numbers seem pretty low :\

Default update from Mac? - 04-07-2007, 07:57 AM

Hi
Am I being silly but someone mentioned tethering to their macbook - how does a Mac user update the device software as the Desktop software doesn't work on Mac.

Can anyone help me on how to do this?

Thanks,
J

Use a Boot Camp install or a Fusion VM install of Windows.

How about updating the OS for us non intel mac users update? I read if we're on T-mobile we can take it in and they will do it. Is that true? Please tell me there's a way to do it on my own. Or over the air?

I'd be surprised - neither T-Mobile nor Cingular has rolled out their customized version of this yet. Unless you have a PC or access to an intel mac, I think you're out of luck for the time being.

Oh. See I was under the assumption that they had released their custom version of the new OS. So I'm out of luck unless I borrow a PC or get a new mac. And Even then I don't know if I would run windows on my intel Mac. Thanks ggoodale.
Come on Pocket Mac, save us die hard OSX users.
