Default Has anyone encountered this problem with missing sync? - 07-22-2007, 12:36 PM

I was unable to get my BB calendar events to overwrite ical and was told by Markspace that it was a calendar problem on the 8300. At the suggestion of markspace, I had a new service book sent to my BB which did nothing. After contacting my service provider, they passed me on to RIM who told me that getting the service book resent was an old temporary fix and is no longer a viable solution and that I needed to get a calendar patch which I did through RIM.

Now, when I try to sync, the sync quits and I get the follwing error message:
Starting sync at 7/21/07 9:16 PM...
Plugin Calendar starting
NSInvalidArgumentException: *** -[NSCFDictionary
setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value
An error occurred while updating the local database from the device.
Plugin Calendar did not complete.

I contacted RIM and they don't support MS so I am now waiting for another slow reply from Markspace. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I guess this is one more plus for PocketMac. It would appear that bothg PocketMac and Missing Sync still have some occasional issues but it helps to be using the product that is supported by the device manufacturer.

I recently purchased a new blackberry 8700 and have tried syncing it with my ibook using missing sync. However, it will not put anything onto my blackberry but I noticed that missing sync does try to replace my address book contacts, calendars events, etc on my mac with those i create on my blackberry. any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried restarting computer and blackberry and also re-syncing multiple times. It always appears it is syncing (says it is adding contacts to device) but when I go into address book on blackberry it is blank (minus the ones I typed in myself). Any words of wisdom?

Default this fixed it - 08-02-2007, 03:28 PM

okay, so the way to go is this:

Get the calendar patch from BB (see above). Then let your mac overwrite the contents of the handheld (I had to manually update the mac with changes I made on the handheld. Then it will work fine in both directions thereafter.

Well, I just got a sprint blackberry 8703e and it syncs out of the box with pocketmac and entourage and address book. I have to make sure I start the sync manager before I plug in the blackberry, though. It works better than palm desktop did with my old treo 650, at least.

Attn: PocketAnne

I am satisfied with PocketMac 4.0.2 with my 8300 and Daylite, however I do have to gripe about the Task sync. For some reason Pocketmac will NOT sync the times for tasks and defaults all tasks to 12:00am.

Jdoom:

I have the same issue with Tasks on my 7130e. PocketMac for Blackberry has been flawless since version 4 came out except for tasks. I have been told that this will be addressed in the next version but it is taking forever for that to come out.

PocketMac and Windows Vista should definitely get married and have wonderfully deformed, bugged, single error - multi meaning children.
I have yet to check out missing sync but I would already reccommend it to users over PocketMac.
PocketMac is far from flawless or even stable. Just pray you dont get Error 1: Skipping.
Oh, and I love it when people ask for Mac equivalent of Desktop Manager and people suggest PocketMac. hahah

Hi!

And there is...

... my point of view...

Neither of these two apps is ideal - here's why.

1. With Pocketmac you can install applications - with Missing Sync you can't

2. With Missing Sync you get access to the Memorycard inside the Blackberry (Pearl or Curve - not the 8310 - doesn't work at the moment) like a "normal" drive - with Pocketmac you can't.

And the worst - you can't install them side by side.

So why is no company capable to give Mac users the full feature-package of the Windows Desktop Application. I don't get it.

Just my €0.02

Greetings
plant

Default BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1.96 - 08-13-2007, 07:48 PM

Does anyone know whether MissingSync works with the latest OS (BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1.96 as far as T-Mobile is concerned)?

PocketMac does NOT work with the latest OS, as they even admit on the help website:

"Problem

The PocketMac software does not recognize the BlackBerry device. When attempting to synchronize the BlackBerry device with a Macintosh computer using PocketMac for BlackBerry devices software, the BlackBerry device user receives the following error:

PocketMac SyncManager - There were warnings generated during the sync. Would you like to view them now?

Clicking Yes generates the following:

(09.20.07.136) Unable to connect to BlackBerry (error 1): skipping

Cause 5

BlackBerry 8700c device is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1.96.

Resolution

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

Workaround
Cause 5

BlackBerry 8700c device is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1.96.

Workaround

Downgrade the BlackBerry Device Software to BlackBerry Device Software 4.2."

Default SplashID - 08-19-2007, 11:53 AM

I have multiple PC's and 1 Mac - I am in the process of using my Mac as my primary computer. On the PC my Pearl can sync to all syncable applications such as SplashID.
The PocketMac software worked great but I could not sync SplashID as I can on my PC's. So I bought into the hype and purchased The Missing Sync as their website states the ability to be able to sync to applications and they also sell SplashID as you go through their checkout.
Unless I'm missing something, I have not found a way to sync SplashID or any other application - and personally I find the whole Entourage syncing process rather bizarre compared to PM which is a direct sync.
I'm now totally mortified to find out that I can't load applications onto my Pearl with ML (at least that is what a previous member stated) - so what good is it?
Unless something dramatic happens - (like ML showing me a work around) I will be asking for my 40 bucks back - yes I know...good luck with that one.
Dan

I've used both and by far my choice is PocketMac. Never had a problem that their support team couldn't straighten out. That's PocketMac's real strength - support.

I use Entourage and have had no issues with either the Pearl I had, and the new 8830 I just picked up syncing and transfering the calender, tasks, and contacts with Pocketmac. It has worked every single time without issue. It has never failed to pick it up either.

Contrasted with the legion of issues I have had with the Windows software I am very happy with Pocketmac. I run a PC at work, and I own a MacPro, and the desktop manager has been a complete nighmare on the PC. For simple Syncing I am putting in a vote for the Pocketmac. I just hope BB sticks with it and continues to update it.

Juroku: THANK YOU for addressing the Entourage<-->8830 sync process via PocketMac. Could you elaborate on how you setup this connection? After forum searches and reading various articles I'm still in the dark if I HAVE to use sync services to go through ical/address book/etc or what.

Cheers!

Pocketmac makes Windows look stable. Ask anyone at RIM they'll tell you that crapware generates more tech calls than Windows sunhong by a factor of 20x with only a tiny fraction of their total user base.

I hope they dump it and start from scratch.

Did not work for Itrezzo, Terrapin Energy, Rusty Bytes, IpserLabs, I'm not that CEO guy.

Well i have just switched to a mac and have downloaded pocket mac and following a little bit of work it syncs my 8820 perfectly.

The one thing that i have found, (which meant that i had to do a little bit of extra work at the beginning), is that iCal does not like repeating events that have been created on my bb, i have deleted them on my bb and re-set them up oin iCall and it worksfine.

All my contacts (some 500 or so), have synched perfectly with address book from the first time.

tried backing up my 8700 to my macbook with all synced except for email. trying to backup from 8700 to 8320. i'm going with a pc for this. too many issues on the mac. not a fan of the pocketmac software and not ready to pony up $40 for missing sync. no real solid mac tool for blackberry in regards to email syncing IMHO.

Missing Sync seems ok to me. However, one thing that always concerns me is 'double-syncing' if you're an Entourage user (like me, which I use to get to my Exchange server mailboxes). Not that I've had too many problems, it just worries me that it's an extra step that could go amiss!

Since I'm posting, I do wish Mark/Space would add a password management app to Missing Sync with a corresp
