Finally got a DVD ripped down to the Blackberry. Other videos I was playing with weren't too bad but the bigger DVD files seemed to be more of a challenge.
Quality is not the best but I'll continue to work on it. Yes I know there is a great tutorial using the command line, but I wanted to see how to do it from the UI.
Needed: Handbrake and QuickTime Pro ($30), I'll continue to look for a freeware solution. I usually use ffmpegx but I need to play with it some more.
Basically I use Handbrake to rip the DVD down to a mp4 (it uses h.264, which the BB apparently doesn't like) at 320x180, 250 kb/sec and 15 fps and then use QTPro to convert the h.264 to h.263.
I had originally ripped the DVD to 720p, 1200 kb/sec and 30fps. It was approx. 700mb and the final file to go over to the BB was 220mb.
btw Office Depot has 1GB Sandisk microSD cards for $25 right now. Sure you can get them lower online but sometime the instant gratification wins out.
Once I finish more testing I'll add screenshots and more details. Video is just a hobby for me so if you come in here and tell me that the actual framerate is 29.97 fps not 30, I shall have to fling poo in your general direction.
