Default Free Themes: Understated Dark Today and Zen Style - 10-18-2007, 12:39 PM

As the name implies this is a minimalistic theme with an overall dark feel to it. Hopefully someone else out there enjoys it. It looks much better on the Curve than in the screen shots IMO. This is my first crack at making a theme so suggestions/comments are appreciated. Note that this theme was built for the Curve or other device running 4.2.2.

Update: Zen version now available.
Update: Refined icons, dialog button and title bar on both versions
Update: OTA now available.
Update: Added a transparent waiting gif and changed battery from white on gray to white on transparent for eaiser reading. Screen shots show the new waiting gif animation.

Very nicely done. I would love to see that on a BB pearl

Looks good. It would look even better as a Zen version.

I would like to attempt this but not having a Pearl I can't imagine trying to make sure everything looks right. The Plazmic sim can be way off at times. I might get brave and try it here in the near future. Thanks for the comment.

Thank You! I've got some refinements to make soon so it will be getting a little better. Right now the icons are too big and take up too much space on the Zen homescreen IMO.

It is the roaming indicator. And I answered that question.

Unless he posted in multiple threads....

Just posted an updated version of these themes. Most notably I made the icons a tad smaller. This looks a lot better IMO, especially on the Zen version.

Great theme! Thanks for making it. One suggestion I have is to change the colors of the battery meter. It is hard to see the gray on white. I have to study the battery meter to see how much charge I have.

I can see how the colors could be hard to distinguish. I will toy with the battery some and see what I come up with. Glad to hear you like the theme otherwise. Thanks.

Themes are probably for the 4.2.2 OS only (since they were made for the Curve according to the first post). Your 8703e runs 4.1. I think you bricked your phone.

What's it doing on the power up? You getting the hourglass? It might sit there for a little while after installing a new theme. (not sure if you've installed a theme before). If it's hanging you might try a battery pull.

I think you need to follow instructions for a total wipe of the handheld. Search for jl_cmdr or search the forums for threads about totally wiping the device and reinstalling your OS

I have tried a couple of batt pulls, no change. It wont get past the hour glass, just spins a couple of times and tries to reboot again.

That makes sense. I will search myself and if I find anything post a link. Sorry for your issues here prosoundguy. I will put the Curve note in bold on my posts.

They work on the 8830 too, as it also runs the 4.2.2 OS.

As for the bricked 8703...not sure if the jl_cmdr thingy works on a phone that won't fully power up. I think it does since it only uses the ROM. Not sure though, sorry.

No Plazmic doesn't allow for the bottem Zen style icons. Wish it did.

The OTA links are meant to be installed via the web from your Curve. Simply browse to this thread on your Curve and select the OTA link for the Zen version and it will prompt you to install.

any chance to get you to port this to the 8700 and 4.2.1 OS . It looks fantastic. I would love to have the ZEN version of this theme. Great work.

I'm going to revisit that question after I finish the 8100 series. I will probably do it but I'm kind of scared to after reading all the problems in the bPhone thread with devices being bricked...

Man, I _really_ like this theme, but it has one big problem. For some reason, the font size I have set in system preferences in being ignored and so the text in the messages and phone lists are small and hard to read. Can you update the theme so it observes the system font sizes? I am visually impaired so the bigger text really helps.

In fact, I really like this theme because of the dark color scheme and the BIG clock in the top-left corner.

Thanks so much - hope you can fix this!

Updated the waiting/busy gif animation to have a transparent background and refined the battery for better viewing ... There is also a new screen shot showing the change.

hmmm... it doesn't seem to be updated. I forwarded all of the jad and cod files to be updated and thought that they had been. I'm not doing the hosting myself... I'll check on this and post an update as soon as it's resolved.
