I've been experimenting with settings to attempt to get 320x240 fullscreen at 30fps with no glitches on a Curve 8310.

Currently I'm using MediaCoder (a free video transcoder) to output MPEG4 in .MP4 and been trying these:

320x240 @ 250k video, 64k mp3 44.1Khz
320x240 @ 400k video, 64k mp3 44.1Khz
320x240 @ 400k video, 48k mp3 22Khz

I found that only the latter, 320x240 @ 400k, 48k mp3 22khz plays nearly flawlessly. Apparently, it seems like that extra sound quality has a bigger impact on BlackBerry video playback than doubling the bitrate.

There are other threads that cover this, but I would like to hear more recent user experiences AND 30fps feedback (not 24fps) with the latest transcoder software -- what settings have you done to get 320x240 video fullscreen playback flawlessly at 30fps? For home videos, etc. (30fps rather than 24fps)

using mediacoder, which format and container in the Video tab should I be using ?

MPEG4 format in MP4 container is what I did. I also configured framerate to match the video (29.97fps), and I also configured the audio to be converted to a lower bitrate. I still get a few glitches (one small jump every 1 minute)

Setting to 200 kilobits per second video and 32 kilobits per second 22Khz MP3 may work better, although 250 kilobits per second with 48 kilobits per second is a good compromise. Depends on what audio and video fidelity you need...

hmm it might be different with the Pearl then. I am doing another encode now, and will update when it's done.

I just finished encoding, and transferring the file... It starts to load, then it shows an error.....

This is the wrong thread unless you have a Curve and you need 320x240 30fps video. If you're encoding a movie or for Pearl (instead of a home video on Curve), I can't help... I think older Pearl's support different video formats and need a different resolution.

My MediaCoder settings for encoding my home videos on a Curve (running OS 4.2) is now as follows:

VIDEO TAB
Mode: Bitrate Based
Kbps: 400 Kbps
Format: MPEG4
Container: MP4

PICTURE TAB
Resize -> 320x240
Frame Rate -> 29.970 (or same as source if 30fps)

AUDIO TAB
Encoder -> FAAC
Resample -> 22050 Hz

FAAC TAB
Average Bitrate Mode
Kbps -> 64
MPEG Version -> MPEG4
Object Type -> Low Complexity

I just converted the movie "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" from DVD to a mp4 at 320x240 resolution. Everything works great on my 8310 Curve. The only problem I have is that the picture looks squished horizontally. Is there some way to adjust the aspect ratio? I used DVDfab to convert it.
