Welcome to BB Forums.

With the 8700, the only way to get ringtones to the phone is to download them from a website.

I can get them to my phone via usb and dm. I'm using audacity to shorten them, but I'm running 4.2 though.

You can do that with 4.2; that's true. I had so many problems with 4.2 on 8700s that we don't use it.

I had some issues too with 4.2 on my 8700g...but after trying pretty much all of the 4.2 OS releases, I finally found one that has been quite stable on my 8700. I no longer have dropped calls, or bluetooth problems, I have very little lag in the OS either. ringtones were still quieter, but I just edited my ringtones and made them louder...quick fix. Check my sig and that's the release I am currently using. I've had very good luck with it so far....I have been on it for almost 2 months now, no problems to speak of.

Keeping in line with this thread, having 4.2 OS and DM on my pc, I can transfer pics and ringtones via usb cable and DM.

Sorry about the double response in this thread. I didnt think it went through the first time. I have the same version of 4.2 as you wingrider78. No issues yet. Although I have had issues with previous versions of 4.2

I didnt know you can get Fav 5 on the 8700. Do tell.

Default My Faves on 8700 - 12-14-2007, 10:34 PM

Well, the way I was told to do it was this....

Log into Tmo website, change your device to 8100 (pearl), once the website thinks your phone is a pearl you can change your plan to a my faves plan. The only difference is that you don't have the 5 icons on the home screen like other users with "my faves compatible" phones. If I want to change one of my 5 people, I have to log into Tmo website and change from there.

When I went to do this, tmo was having trouble with their site, so I called the CS reps and just told them I switched to a pearl and wanted a My Faves plan. Once they switched it over and I received the text messages from them, it was done.

I have read that you can enable the 5 icons on an 8700, but I like my zen themes and like my background images, I don't want to be stuck with 5 faces, so I haven't looked into it too much.

The only thing that makes their phones "my faves compatible" is the ability to display the 5 icons on the homescreen....and since I don't care about that, I just have my 5 numbers.....oh yeah, and love it by the way.

Once you switch to a faves plan, you will have to add the unlim bb data plan to it.....good luck.

Removing PTT and BB Messenger helps improve the UI responsiveness of OS 4.2 on the 8700 series. FYI.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

There is no ptt on my device and bb messenger has been removed on all releases that I've tried out...4.2.1.107 has still been the best OS for my device. Are there any others that could be removed to help the responsiveness???
