Some of you might have heard of the Google Android phone operating system, if you haven't.. don't fret.. you can check it out at Android
Anyways, I have been working on an "Android" replica for the BB.
Here are a few beta screens.
Zen, Icon, and Today styles are now available for the 8300, 8700, and 8800 series.

That looks very good, Corey. I'll be watching this one come to fruition. Are you planning on a Today, Icon, or Zen style?

the hype over this is much different than apple hype. lol. This is open source un restrained software/os. Something actually useful, where as apple's hype is usually over hyped/under spec'd products, granted they do make some cool things every once and awhile.

Correct. Like some calling the iPhone an "invention". I'm all for Google's Android hype.

Did you get permission to use his icons on your newly priced theme?
Its a good thing he is legit and actually sues scumbags for stealing his work.
check out the link... to where you have to "buy" the right to use these icons in a commercial product.

I voted to bann the posting of paid themes (only free themes will be allowed). That will solve all of this drama.

You know, we're just about ready to restrict all posts regarding "pay" themes. This is getting out of hand. If you guys really like this constant bantering then we can just be done with all of it. Keep it up, guys.

I sincerely hope the posting of paid themes do not get banned.
Although, I can understand where you are coming from.
I feel there should be stricter rules for posting in paid theme posts.
There's always that debate on whether or not paying is right... etc etc. It should definitely be against the forum rules to post anything that will stir up that debate.
Personally, this is the only place I am able to post my pay themes without being deleted. It's important for business, but most importantly it gives customers a place to give their valued comments, and give the creator credit.

I wonder why it's the only place? Because this is what happens when you allow it. "He stole my icons." "That's the same theme as mine." Sounds like 7th grade homeroom.

Maybe is someone came up with some strict guidelines about posting pay themes, like Corey was saying. Two rules that I would set is:
1) No flaming about the people who would like to be paid for their themes.
2) If you post a pay theme, you must post the price in the title.
I think that would help reduce the problems.

We already have rules about flaming, regardless of what the post/thread is about.

The concern for stealing icons is a big deal, but it should definitely be handled in a much quieter manner.
I understand that these forums are free.. and small fights/accusations should not be here either way.
I'm sorry.

Well you get the idea JC.
But Corey is right, this is one of the only places where theme builders can post their pay themes. Themers need a place to advertise in order to grow.

Themers? Use your own website and sell based on your own merits. Here doesn't seem to be the place. We don't allow other commercial ventures to post in the forums without being a forum sponsor. Why should "themers" be any different?

I see your point. I just disagree with punishing the pay theme designers because others cause problems and start debate about it. Punish the problem makers, not the theme builders.

As a forum owner, I have refused to "host" themes that are for sale, unless they are my own, or a percentage of the proceeds go to my site.
If you want to grow...try releasing a few free themes. Gain a reputation as a themer..gain a following. Then introduce paid themes.
I think Corey has a talent for theme design. I may end up creating a section on my site ONLY for premium themes...it is still up in the air.
I'd really hate to see BlackBerryForums.com close the door on theme's that are Premium...maybe the owner can create a subforum ONLY for premium?

Whatever you guys decide is fine with me.
And it is true that other forums charge fees to advertise, so I appreciate you guys allowing it.
Good luck on the decision and i'll back it 100%.

I agree with this post. The problem guys are the same ones everytime. but notice he is fussing about someone elses work not his own. So why not tell him to butt out. I say ban the trouble makers not the guys making the themes.
And FWIW. I am against paid themes, but I dont want to see them punished because of a few morons

My say on the topic.....
I think you guys are missing the point of my original post. I have no beef with coreyvisto selling his themes or anyone else. The topic of paid themes although appears to be the issue right now... was not the issue.
The issue is that coreyvisto is using copyrighted icons that he must buy a royality for... since he makes no note of where he got the icons or gives credit to the actual author, who spent countless hours actually making those icons.
Stealing someone's else's work is not cool. I would think that bbforums with the evidence given should give coreyvisto a warning and remove this theme....
stealing is stealing.... when someone does it, they should be caught red handed... not in a private im.
I appreciate all the pm's from others thanking me for pointing out that people should produce there own graphics and not take from others and then sell it.
This post is not meant to open a new wound... but to stress the importance of how hard it is to produce graphics and that credit and money should be due to the original author...

If this is, indeed, the case then that's a good reason for us to disallow pay-for themes. We do not have the time nor do we have the resources to research every theme and make sure the graphics haven't been "lifted" from another site, theme, or whatever. Just taking another "themer's" word on the matter isn't enough, so research would be necessary. There are 16 or so moderators and almost 200,000 members here and thousands of posts per day. I think our work is already cut out for us without this problem.
