Default Should Pay themes be allowed - 02-27-2008, 06:00 PM

Ok I saw a thread that some of the mods want to ban paid themes because of the problems the threads cause. I say ban the people who are causing the problem not the themers (unless of course they are the problem).

I was just curious as to what others thought about this.

The poll is simple.

1 Ban paid themes all together
2 Ban the trouble makers
3 make the themers pay for advertising.
4 I dont care.

4 - I am at the point where I could care less about it anymore, between members and moderators complaining about it I'm about to petition RIM to just use text based menus from now on... besides on my BB that is.

I say Ban the trouble maker if someone wants to charge for their work and effort by al means they are entitled. If another members doesn't want to pay then they can get the Theme builder and build their own themes

I originally stated the idea of punishing the trouble makers, and that is what I casted my vote for.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I almost go with don't care because I don't get the fuss over themes. But my opinion is exhaust all efforts to just make people behave before doing the other.

Let them do what they want. If you don't want to buy it, don't. This issue really does not bother me.

Moot point for me. Company won't allow 3rd party downloads.

I agree. I only use TMo Zen and everything else is gone to save space. IMO, 3rd party themes only open up the device to having hidden problems caused by the theme.

I think there should be a seperate forum for paid themes and free themes on the top page of BBForums. This way it is easy to navigate to either one.

Thanks,

Mark

Amazingly enough, Beer wasn't an option.

She only votes for Beer because Rum is never an option around here.

I don't care. Maybe I don't care because I have yet to find a theme that I actually like more than the standard Verizon theme. I like it simple.

well I was going to add it but I knew it was aserious issue so I decided to try and leave it that way.

I see the mods have already made up their minds so what does it matter anyway.

On beer - that's our vote, for now. We plan on consuming enough beer to make a valid decision once the booze kicks in and naked adult twister has gotten old.

Ok, on a serious note, I could care less whether paid themes are allowed or not. Honestly, I haven't ever bought anything for my device - theme, wallpaper, ringtone, etc. Nothing has blown my skirt up enough to make me want to pay for it.

However, I voted to ban the troublemakers, which is what we do now for anyone who breaks the rules here by harrasing other members - theme or not.

I know it's been said - multiple times - but if someone wants to build a theme and sell it, it's up to others whether or not they want to pay for it. If you don't like a theme that you see, offer constructive suggestions for improvement. Otherwise keep your trap shut and move on.

And as long as I'm on a roll, if you do post a theme and someone does decide to be a jerk about it, grow a thick skin and consider the source - don't stoop to their level.

While I'm all for folks selling their work, and also think that if you don't think it's right shut up and don't buy it, I do think that the advertising here is getting a little out of hand. Lately there are some developers who are contributing nothing more to this forum than to talk about their latest theme for sale. I think if this is going to be allowed, then it should be moved to some sort of separate market place forum.

i don't know how you can "ban the troublemakers" when some comments are misconstrued...example, i mentioned that a pay-for-theme didn't offer much and used a lot of stock images, etc....if improved upon, like making custom icons, etc, then i think the theme would be worth paying for...this was considered troublemaking...personally, i think that is constructive criticism - what doesn't work and how to fix it...

i voted for making them pay for advertising...

If the constructive criticism is just that - constructive - then there are no problems with it.

However, if someone responds with "well that's just stupid", or "a one eyed ogre could make that"...well, that's not necessary.

Cripe, it's a theme. Who cares? I went to a 3yr old's funeral this week. Put some perspective on it, people.
