How does one go about setting a specfic ringtone to a contacts phone number on a 8130 pearl?

you should be able to go into the contact, hit menu > edit > menu > custom ringtone

Open that contact entry to edit, press Menu, Add custom Ringtone.

I have created ring tones on my computer and have imported them onto my phone. I would like to set some of those ring tones to specific contacts but can only figure out how to set pre-loaded ring tones.

I am having even more difficulty just trying to set a basic ring tone. That is, I want to simply set the ring tone that sounds when the phone rings. I have spent the last hour going through manuals and help screens with zero success. I am sure it is something obvious, but given the miriad of options, it has not been possible for me to find a solution to this simple setting. Please advise.

You can go into your media folder and select ringtones. Highlight the ringtone you want and hit menu then select set as ringtone. Doing this will set all your profiles to use this tone for calls. You can also go to Profiles then Advanced then highlight a specific profile (ie.LOUD) and go to Phoner and set the ringtone there which will only affect that profile. This lets you have one ringtone for say home and one that you prefer to use at work.
