Default theme question - 08-08-2008, 08:48 AM

friend bought a theme online (dumb in my opinion) and got a link via email to install the them ota. the link is only good for 48 hours and he cant visit the link from a pc browser and save the theme file (tries and the page says to visit with a bb). anyone have a clever idea on how to download and save this theme to a pc? this is necessary for reinstalling the them after a wipe etc. and since he PAID for it, he should be allowed to do this.

ps... PLEASE, no responses from the holier than thou crowd, im not interested in hearing anything other than a direct answer to my question. if you dont have such an answer, simply move on without replying

thanks

Wirelessly posted (All the cool kids are doing it)

Well once you have it on your BB if you do a wipe it will reload the theme back on the device.

There is a program floating around that you can download a jad file from a regular browser but I don't know what its called and I know a lot of theme developers aren't too happy about it

You can try this. Depending on how the .jad file is named/stored, it may or may not work... but it's worth a shot.

That program will not work work paid themes purchased from sites like Bplay, Handango or Mobihand. Those sites use encrypted links and not a direct JAD link to the theme.

thanks everyone. this is a classic case of people trying to sop you from backing up what you PAID for (like cd's etc) and it was ruled that we do indeed have the right to make backup copies of any software we purchase. that being the case, if i buy a theme i want it saved on my computer somewhere. if i wipe the device or have to reinstall the os, my paid for theme is gone. and these sellers cant guarantee that the download links will work FOREVER.

what about a bb emulator with mds to go to the site and install the theme in the emulator? would that work? the files would then have to be stored on the pc somewhere

Most of the bigger companies will probably be around long enough for this to not be a issue...and it really will back up and restore on your device if you have to reload the OS. I have done it a few times with mine and the Crossbar theme I purchased
