Default Designing this Theme and Need Some Help - Red Swirly Zen - 08-11-2008, 09:39 PM

OK, this has been fun, but I'm kinda stuck and need some help.
I started designing this theme for work. I wanted something understated and I wanted to get rid of a lot of the yellow that came with my Sprint Theme and I wanted the Clock really big.

Learning how to use The Gimp was half the challenge. I changed the Battery Meter, the Signal Meter and the Focus Icons to a Burgundy color that I think goes pretty well with the Red Swirly background.

The Focus Icon on the Applications screen does have a little visibility issue in some areas of the screen, it can kinda fade out. I played with various colors and in trying to stay away from the yellow, settled on this one. It's not an issue for me because I have animated icons in the areas of the screen that the icon fades out a little and, there is always the banner at the bottom of the screen that tells you what your focused on. Some users might want to switch this Focus Icon to something else.

Once I figured out how to use The Gimp on .gif images it was all over for the Hourglass, Navigation and Transmission icons. A deep shade of Burgundy they became. Please note on this Screenshot the Battery Meter and Clock look cluttered, they do not look this way on the device.

I changed everything I could to match with the theme. Then I got to this screen.

This is the Message List the way it's displayed in Theme Builder. It's not the way it's displayed on my Curve 8330. The Banner on the device is some default banner with all the blue icons and black clock. The Highlight on the messages is the default blue. My Cursors in the Browser are blue also. The default blue is haunting me and I can't get rid of it. So I'm asking for some help.
Now the Sprint Theme that came with my phone has all the Cursors and Highlights yellow, and the default theme from the Theme Builder makes them blue, so shouldn't I be able to change them to something? Am I making any kind of sense?

Love the Call Screen.

Can someone help me finish this theme?
Basically I'm wondering if I have the right setup. Is it possible to change all the Highlights and Cursors to match the rest of the color scheme?

All comments welcome.

Which version of the builder are you using? 4.2 or 4.5? And also which OS are you running?

I'm using Plazmic CDK 4.5, and the OS is 4.3.0.127? I think. I got it from the About screen.

And your exporting it to 4.2 correct? If you upgrade your OS to 4.5 and export it to 4.5 then I believe you will fix your banner issue...can't be for certain but even without that you still shouldn't have that problem

Thanks BCollins521 for your help but I'm confused.
Should I upgrade the OS on the BlackBerry? Can that be dangerous?

Nope very easy...just download the newest version and then plug your BB into the DM...you can save some memory if you use John Clark's Memory Optimize Link and gain some more memory but you don't have to

Thanks Nextel.
And Thanks BCollins, the upgrade went very well and was much faster than anticipated. I took less than 45 minutes.
Everything is 4.5 now and I'm exporting to 4.5.
Now the upgrade did correct my little problem with the Message List screen as far as the Highlight is concerned. The messages are now highlighted in the desired color. I guess the question now is; Is that as far as I can go with the Message List Screen? What about the Banner on the Message List Screen? The Clock is Black and the Battery Meter and the Network text are blue. This is a different Banner that doesn't seem to be modifiable using the Theme Builder. Can I theme it?
And what about the Cursor and the Progress Bar in the Browser? They are the default blue and in the Sprint Theme they're yellow, so can I change them to something else? It's like there is some kind of System Color that I should be able to change.
Is any of this possible?

Thanks for Everything!

Ben,

You're doing a great job man! An fyi I think you've already figured, you don't have to use the same focus icon for the Profile in the banner and the focus icon in the apps and home screen covering the apps. Also, if you want to clean your home screen up just a bit, put transparent image for your tab under the icons.
