Default Windows drivers needed for mircosd cards to be recognized? - 08-12-2008, 07:15 PM

Hi, are there any drivers needed in order for mircosd cards to be recognized by windows as a mass storage device?

I am able to put media on the card through the DM media manager, however the card will never be recognized as a mass storage device (and yes, all the settings turned on in my pearl).

Edit: In windows explorer, I can see the removable drive, however when I try and open that drive, I get the error message: Please insert a disk into Drive G

I am on windows XP, and using a 512mb media card (if that matters).

Thanks for your time.

I guess I forgot to mention, I am just plugging a usb cord into my pearl (where the card is).

I am actually considering just going out and buying a card reader/adapter since this has been really bothering me.

Have you checked your device while it is connected to see if it is asking for permission?

Nothing appears on my device.

Could it be an anti-virus, etc. software causing this?

Doubtful

Have you installed desktop manager? Have you tried pulling the battery to reboot then reconnecting?

This has been really puzzling me, I can access the card though the media manager, just never as a removable disk

Maybe a driver issue. I suggest uninstalling DM (check in the blackberry website for registry cleaning) and re-install.

Has the card been formatted?

I have re-installed DM multiple times (for various reasons), no change.

Have you tried a different USB connector and a different USB port? Hubs don't work well for this. The other thing you can do is go into Device Manager, expand the list of USB Controllers, and one by one, uninstall the driver then reboot. Windows will re-install the driver. Do each one separately, and reboot in between.

I went out and bought a new card and a card reader.

Still the card doesn't show up as a mass media card in Windows Explorer through the pearl, but it can be read fine through the reader.

Not a big problem, just a minor annoyance.

Thanks for everyones help

Try format the card with different Allocation Unit Size.
