Arrow Media card music suddenly disappeared - 08-13-2008, 07:11 AM

So everything was fine with me and my bb 8320, enjoying the music on my sd card and such...till I was having network connection probs so i removed the battery, sim, and sd card to reset the phone. Since then, I have gotten a message that says, "media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted."

Like I said, previous to me removing the battery, sim, and sd, all my music and pics were there. Now they aren't. I'm guessing they haven't deleted themselves from the card and that it's still on it (at least i think) but how come my bb is suddenly not reading it. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

Take the card out and try reading it from the PC by using an adaptor to rea5 it.

a few more notes...inserted the sd card into laptop, it's not reading it. when i connect my bb to it and open the device manager->media manager, it detects the media card, but when i click on it, a window pops up asking to please turn on mass storage media on the phone (which is already on). also "media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted" still reads under options. i really hope this can be resolved.

If you can't read it on the BB or the PC... I would not count too much hope.

What is your OS on the BB, what is the size of the Media Card?

You say your laptop canNOT read the card? That might mean somehow the data or file directory got bunged for some reason. But it also may mean your laptop is not set up to see "hard drives" with letters greater than C: or D: Put the card into the laptop again and then RightClick on MyComputer and pick MANAGE. Then drill down to Storage and see if the card shows up in some fashion or other. You might need to assign a drive letter like e: or f: so that it will show on the laptop.

If that fails, you may just have to reformat it. From the sounds of it, you do NOT have a backup of those files. In the future, keeping a backup on your laptop or burning a cd or dvd with those music (and other) files might be a good idea.

Good luck

What Desktop Manager version are you using? What Handheld Device version are you using? Do they match? Try loading your files with the adaptor from the computer, or format the micro SD card.

Your Handheld device OS version and your Desktop Manager version do NOT need to match. Never has been so required for a BlackBerry.

A 4gb Media card is recognized in OS 4.2. You probably do need to reformat the card in the news OS, though.

If DM sees it, then be smart and backup the media on the card immediately, reformat the card FROM your PC using the SD adapter that came with it.

Also, make sure the contacts on the card and your phone aren't damaged or gunked up. Definitely take JS's advice and back up the data if you can.
