I have some themes I'll soon have ready... I'm not planning on holding them random for $5+ a piece but I would like to be able to charge a buck or two for some of them that I've worked hard on.

I can put screenshots on my website and link to purchasing through paypal... My question is how do I prevent them from being shared. Obviously I will only release the OTA link after receiving payment, but what's to stop the buyer from sharing the link?

Make the links expiring, so they are only good for one click, or 10-15 mins

And just a warning to you, make sure you have the commercial rights to sell the graphics/icons in your themes.

So are the icons that you can easily find online how would you go about asking for permission with that since they are already free

If you found them on a site or forum that says "free icons, use and enjoy" I think you're safe. What they mean is the obvious art work, College logos, pro sports logos, Disney logos and images etc. Stuff like that is definitely copy protected and C&D will certainly follow eventually when you host themes with it.

Actually, even a lot of the free icons found across the web were originally packaged with 'Read Me'/'Terms of Use' files by the original creators that specifically state whether the icons were intended for personal, non-commercial use only or free for personal and/or commercial use.

However, more often than not these icons sets get posted at 'free icon' directory websites that exclude and/or ignore these terms set by the original artists. Sad, really. Your best bet is to try and get your graphic resources directly from the creators, as many of them have websites and/or deviantART pages that state their terms. And if you don't see anything, it never hurts to actually contact the artist to ask about commercial rights to use their creations.

Yea that's what I figured, figured I would see what everyone goes by cause I'm sure someone will try and sell a theme and say that they didn't know or thought it was free since they got it from a free icon site
