Question Can anyone help me? My phone won't locate my media card!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys! I just got my new blackberry pearl yesterday as a warranty replacement for my HTC Wing. I love it but it's so incredibly different and I'm kind of struggling. I am the typical clueless girl when it comes to this stuff so if you could give me as much step-by-step instruction as possbile I would really appreciate it. I saved all of my pictures and ringtones onto my micro SD card prior to putting it into my blackberry but my phone isn't discovering the card for some reason. When I select the "media" icon, then pictures, then media card it just gives me the "up" option. Help!? I have tried removing the battery to let it re-start with no luck. Also, I would like to access the internet but I have no browser icon? Thanks for all of your help! I'm sure that I will have more ???'s to come!

When you have the media card in your BlackBerry go to "Options" then "Media card" does it see the media card at all? And make sure "Media Card Support" is "On".

As far as the internet did you get an BlackBerry Internet Plan with the phone? I would call your carrier to make sure.

Let me know how that works out.

What folder structure do you have on your card, and where are your pictures stored?

The folder structure on the card should be:

Root
>Blackberry
>>Pictures
>>Music
>>Ringtones
>>Videos
>>Voicenotes

etc.

If you saved your images in the root of the card or in another folder it may not pick them up. They should be in Blackberry>Pictures.

For the Internet access, if you do have a data plan, you can try going to Options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Table and then press the BB key (the one w/the dots on it next to the trackball) and select Register Now.

Then go back to your home screen and see if the Browser icon appears.

Did I mention that I have no clue what most of this stuff means? I followed your instruction by going into options then media card and even though it allows me to click "media card" it doesn't find any additional storage space on it or anything that has been saved. I'm assuming that means it's not locating it? I also double checked and yes, media card support option is on. I'm not sure of the format of my media card - I just had my camera on my previous phone set up to save all of my pictures directly to the card rather than my internal memory so they should all be on there, right? I'm sorry that I'm so useless with all of this! =(

I'm such a nerd! I called T-Mobile and they explained that my internet package for my Wing is a completely different one than the blackberry specific data package. She pulled a switch-o-change-o and now I have the icon! Thanks! One problem down, one to go.

Copy anything you want to save off the media card onto your PC.

Then see if you can get the BB to format the card:

1. Go to Options>Media Card
2. Press the BB button (the one to the left of the trackball)
3. Select Format Card

If that works, you should get an update on that screen showing available and used space, etc.

Then you can connect your BB to your computer via USB and copy you picture files to the Blackberry>Pictures folder.

If you removed the card from your previous phone you should move the media to your PC, then reformat the card for the BB, then move the media back. I would format the card in a PC if you can then just insert it into the BB and all should be ok.

FYI - It'll be easier to format your media card on the BB, so try that option first. If that doesn't work, then what Zerog46 recommends is the way to go.

To format the card on your PC, you'll need to determine which drive icon on My Computer represents the media card, and then right-click on it and select Format. Then select Fat32 as your "File System" option from the dialog (it should default to that, but might not), leave all other settings at default, and click OK to format.

Oh - important question...

What size media card are you using?

What OS does your Blackberry have? (Options>About, and the OS version number will look something like "4.2.0.81" or similar.)

This is important, because of the following limitations related to OS and memory card size limits. I believe there may also be hardware specific limits to what size media card you can use in the 8100, regardless of OS, but not as sure about that.

BlackBerry Device Software Media Card Size Limit
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and later Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 and later Up to 32 GB
