Default What pay host are you all using for OTA hosting? - 11-12-2008, 08:47 PM

I have a site with Go Daddy, which I like, but unfortunately I have exhausted all my resources trying to get themes to work OTA and I just don't think they do or will support my request.

So who do you use that is a decent hosting company. A recommendation of a host that this works on is always better....!

TIA.

How? Are you on linux or windows?

I would be forever grateful if you could give me some info. PM me your trick if you want so we don't clutter the board, but man, I put a .htaccess file up with the theme file, same folder... and it won't work. I am 99.9% I have everything right unless I jacked up the .htaccess file...

I sure would appreciate any insight you could give me!

Could you guys post the answer to the question here for other people that are having this issue? I am kind of curious as to what the problem was as well.

Often times those are not very reliable and they give you a crappy address such as <your name>.<hosting site>.com. If you want a reliable, good, stable site, most times you will have to pay for the host.

Wirelessly posted (8700c)

Yeah we will let everyone know what we find out. So far I got nada and I've tried a lot of different stuff tonight.

For now I am heading off for some shut eye, but tomorrow is another day and I will see what I can get accomplished!

For the OP: I might be wrong, but I don't know if a free host is going to do me any good. I really don't mind paying, because in my experience it is worth it for the shear fact of speed. Photobucket is a great place to house pics, but it can be miserably slow and you run out of space right quick.

the cheapest I ever found was a reseller called 3IX.org. I used them when I first started hosting OTA files.

Wirelessly posted (9000)

Update: I got the OTA downloads working.

I can explain more later, but first the account was not provisioned for .jad files, only .cod files. Imagine that huh, it only took 5 or so phone calls to finally get someone who knew what the heck they were doing [read MIME file]. Secondly, the 2 .htaccess example files I had gotten online did not work for me, so I had to type a new one based on what Go Daddy had in there tutorial they sent me.

Anyway all is good, and I appreciate Troy offering his help and everyone else throwing out host's they use.
