Default Theme with Application Screen as list - not icons? - 12-29-2008, 04:17 PM

hi - i'm new here (i already posted in the wrong section!) - i did search, but there are tons of threads with "theme" and "applications" and "list" in there . . . and i didn't see what i was looking for. of course, i potentially missed it.

at my last company i was using an 8700g (i think - that's what it looks like on the bberry website).

i've just started a new job and have been handed an 8830

i am having one little problem. i truly cannot stand the application screen. on my 8700 i had downloaded a free theme (i cannot remember what it was - just something simple like dimension today or zen today or something standard - nothing fancy) and i distinctly remember that it made the application screen a list of text, as opposed to cluttered icons.

i'm fine with my homescreen, i don't care about wallpaper . . . i don't need any fancy anything - but i have been desperately searching for a theme that has this - and i can't find anything. everything seems to be a bunch of icons for applications.

does such a thing exist? and since i'm kind of technically challenged - can someone kind of point me in the right direction of where to go to find it?

much appreciated!

With the 88xx,83xx,81xx, and beyond the application screen is the set of icons...no way of changing that. They did away with the list. A theme could be made that has the icons and names on the right/left of the icon on the home screen but the application screen would still be the same. No way of changing that

No problem...it isn't as bad as it looks..you can always hide icons that you don't want to see or move them to the bottom of the screen so the most used are what you see

Using plazmic you are able to make a theme with a list in the homescreen. Not too difficult either. Im sure if you asked a theme developer nicely someone could create a default Dimension list theme for you.

Do you mean a zen homescreen?

I haven't used the old list theme, but I understand it to be a scrolling list of applications, not a matrix of icons.

Zen themes come close to that idea, but are limited by the lack of scrolling.

Unless I'm missing something, vertically scrolling zen items without icons (text only) would be pretty tough to whip up.

It can be done, see the pictures above that I posted. It isn't a Zen theme that I created though, I did a custom Today, and it ends up looking like a Zen, since I am using the text only.

okie dokie, well if you do decide to release it - yell!

i can't look at all those icons. they make me nuts.

again - the "today" concept for the homescreen is fine for me. but when i go to applications - all the goofy clutter . . . egads. i'm happier with a scrolling list, or even as you had - just text.

that's so silly that it was once available and then went *poof*

anyway - thanks for everyone's help!
