Default Real Player SP - Player and converter for free - 09-13-2009, 02:27 AM

I've never really liked Real Player. But at times people will chose to use that format for some unknown reason. However, the latest version (Real Player SP) is useful for a change.

It plays .3gp format files which is why I downloaded it in the first place.

But it also has a video downloader and a format converter. When you're on a website like CNN.com or Youtube.com it shows a "Download This Video" button above the video when you mouse over. Doesn't work on sites like Yahoo where they use Flash Player.

Once it saves, the converter comes up and then you can convert to different formats including .3gp, Windows Media, Apple format, and some others. Then if the phone is hooked up, it will bring up a menu to copy it to the phone.

The converter works separately as well. I converted existing .mpeg, .avi, and .mov formats to try it out. Not sure what other formats it will convert.

It's not a speed demon by any stretch, but it is free and it will play .3gp files so you don't have to have another converter/player installed in addition to a real media player.
