Actually - one more question about activation -- I've had two BBs. I know that I've never gone through a password activation step. What happens for me is 1st I send an email request to (?activate) my email ID on the corp's BEServer. Then I load the desktop software off another corp server. Then I call Cingular to give them the IME number to activate my cell # with the new phone.

So, I'm thinking I may be able to follow the same route of sending an email request (1st step above). They must flip a software switch to activate my email ID.

Does this sound right?

When I upgraded the OS, following seattle and jibi's instructions to the letter, I was immediately downloading email. All I had to do was resend my service books to get the browers. No call to the IT help desk was necessary. No activation was necessary. I wanted the zen theme. Never looked back.

Thanks for this thread Seattle18! I am new to the BB world and just picked up a 8700c the other day.

I just finished installing the new themes without a hitch. The Zen theme is awesome!

Default Network Selection with Bharti/TMo/Telstra OS Upgrades - 05-13-2006, 09:32 PM

Noticed that the option to switch between manual and automatic network selection has disappeared in the OS upgrade from Cingular to Bharti /TMO or Telstra. With Bharti /TMO there is no options available at all, and with Telstra (which I downgraded from, back to Bharti /TMO), the only network related option is to turn data off when roaming.

Am I missing something here? How would one select a network when roaming, and using the Bharti /TMO or Telstra OS?

Hi fellas, new to the board..

I'm wondering if anyone can anyone explain this portion a bit better...

Quote:
1a. On your PC, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and delete any programs called BlackBerry v4.1.0 for the 8700 Series Wireless Handheld. Be sure to NOT delete the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Am I to completely remove anything that says Blackberry v4.1.0 or just delete it from the Add/Remove Programs list? I'm currently running BB Desktop v4.1.1 and Windows XP SP2, and when I try to install the Telestra version, it prompts me to unistall the newer version.

Any help is appreciated...

Go to Add/Remove Programs and delete anything installed as your Desktop Manager software. The new installation will add one for you, and make the process recognize there is an update.

Either one will work on any 8700 model. The choice is yours. There have been some claims that the Telstra has increased battery drain, among other things, so many are reverting back from Telstra to the T-Mo/Bharti load. FYI...

Default Error message "no system software..." - 05-16-2006, 08:56 PM

Well I've spent about 2 hrs. now on this and I can't seem to get very far. I've followed the instructions for both installs and I am getting the same message in the application wizard. "No system software was found for your device. Contact your system administrator or service provider for information on obtaining device system software." I have an 8700c but it is currently hooked up with Rogers in Canada. My software version shows 4.1.0.90.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was having a similar problem when I tried to get it to work on my BB. I used the javaloader and wiped my device. Then I started over and loaded the altered OS on to my blackberry and it worked beautifully. Good luck getting it to work

First, have you ever installed the Desktop Software to your PC? Second, did you go to Add?Remove Programs and delete the Handheld software in there?

Yep did all that. It turns out I had to go and get the Cingular software from blackberry.com and install that first. Then I went back through your instructions and everything is working fine now.
Thanks to both of you for the quick replies.

Oh wow, THANKS!! I had trouble launching the DM as it was not in the c:\program files\Research In.... blah blah blah but in a different folder instead (I installed a fresh v4.1.0 in the default directories too) and found just looking through the folders.

Anyhow, it worked great and thanks again!

Zen is not supported by the 7250.

is it one of the first 5 icons still? Even if you hide it, you must MOVE it out of that top 5 in order for it to be hidden.

Default ZEN Theme on Optus 8700G Help? - 05-22-2006, 01:00 AM

Hello,

I am new to Blackberrys and am loving my new 8700G.. great device.

I would like to have the ZEN theme running but I am not sure about the best way to do this.

I have V4.10.258 (platform 2.0.0.111) on my 8700g and my service provider Optus doesnt have the newer version to download.

I am concerned if I just update it with another service provider update I will screw the BB up.

So A few quick questions in need help with.

1. Do I need to upgrade to get ZEN themes to work?
2. If so where is the best palce to dload the update for a 8700g.
3. Does the file need to be specific to a 8700g or could it be a 8700c or other 8700 family?
4. Will not having an Optus upgrade effect the use of my BB?

Thanks for your help!

1. Jibi or others will be able to determine if you can utilize the Zen theme with a deleted Vendor file and updated .alx file.
2. Search the forum for "Bharti" or "Telstra", or Tmo's .284 OS.
3. Does not need to be specific to your carrier if you follow the instructions carefully.
4. Nope. The service will remain the same, as the OS is for your handheld, and not necessarily related to your carrier.

I, for one, use Telstra (from our Aussie brethren) on my U.S. Cingular-based 8700c. Works great. Many on here are U.S. or Canadian folks that use other OS version such as this. The OS is created from RIM, not the individual cell carriers.

Default Didnt work? - 05-22-2006, 02:47 AM

Well I took the gamble and did the Telstra upgrade as shown in jibi's post up the top of this thread - all appeared to go as shown - pulled battery out waited plugged it back in - did the reactivation bit..

BB works just as before the upgrade - still shows version 4.10.258 and no Zen theme listed in the theme's?

What should I try now?

Many Tks

Then you didn't do it 100% correctly. Was there a 20+ minute time period when the desktop manager was loading the new OS?

Since you have .284, just follow this: http://blackberryforums.com/showpost...70&postcount=6

Wait, nevermind, you have something other than .284 - sorry. Follow the steps precisely, do the T-Mo/Bharti steps...

OK great - working now with Bharti version..

Interface is noticibliy slower - is this the same when using the Telstra version?

Also what other themes come with Telstra version - some of the new one in Bharti are really nice (orange - O2 & Vodaphone!)

Also how do I get the wallpapers from your great web site on the BB Zen theme?

Tks

Frosty

May be slow to start, but usually it picks up speed after you work with it for a couple of days.

Telstra OS has the same themes as Bharti, with the exception of the Vodaphone theme. The Telstra version is different than the Bharti.

The easiest way to get the wallpapers is to download them and e-mail them to yourself. Then you just open the attachment and save.

Enjoy!

Open up the attached pic in the email and save it. Then it will be in your Pictures folder. Go there, click on it and choose Set as Home Screen Image. Done.

Scroll down to the BB icon at the bottom of the list on the right side, click it, scroll down to the Pictures folder. If for some reason you do not see it then it is hidden. Then go Options/Home Screen/Organize Applications and find the Pictures icoon. Hold Alt key and press the trackwheel, select Show Application. It will now appear in the normal application list on the home screen menu.

All going fine now..

One more point perhaps you can help me with?

I noticed on one of the other themes that came with the upgrade (cingular one) that there is an "applications" folder - this makes arranging things easier - how are these folders made? i.e. can I make them myself on other favorite theme's?

Many Tks for your great help

Default T-Mobile UK 291/286 build for other operator themes? - 05-23-2006, 06:55 AM

I have

8700g_4.1.0_rel_291_Pl_2.0.0.123_A_4.1.0.286..exe

in my T-Mobile Blackberry 8700g already

It's available from http://updateservice.t-mobile.net/blackberry/

Is there a process for getting at extra operator themes from THIS build of the software. Presumably I'll need to re-flash this OS into my BB after first removing the vendor.xml file. What about BlackBerry.alx? There doesn't seem to be a version of this file for that build?
