Well I performed the telestra upgrade. I really don't know how people are having trouble with this. I know it says to follow the instructions precisely.. however I was not too serious about it because I did not really care if it worked. I am fine with the Cingo theme. I half a__ed followed the instructions out of order and the upgrade worked like a charm. Now that I have this Zen theme I will never go back. I spent a full hour afterwords personalizing my B Berry. This theme should be pre-installed on ALL BB's it is great. I love the little pop up menu of apps at the bottom and how it is realligned. THANK YOU SEATTLE!!!!

It's available from http://updateservice.t-mobile.net/blackberry/

Is there a process for getting at extra operator themes from THIS build of the software. Presumably I'll need to re-flash this OS into my BB after first removing the vendor.xml file. What about BlackBerry.alx? There doesn't seem to be a version of this file for that build?
Anyone know how I get an alx file for this build?

Default Upgrading an 8700r to Telstra OS - 05-26-2006, 12:00 AM

Awesome instructions. Loaded on my 8700r without issue. I didnt even have to mess with my BES account everything is working as it was before the upgrade. ZEN ROCKS!!!!

How you make new ZEN themes? I did not see an option for ZEN themes in the Theme builder app.

You can't. Zen IS the theme, the different backgrounds are just images of your choice to use.

Default Desktop manager does not give the option to upgrade - 05-26-2006, 05:16 AM

Well,

I followed all the steps, and installed the software, etc. After launching the Desktop Manager software, I do not get a prompt to upgrade. Hmmm... I'm wondering what to do.

I've redone everything a second time, and still no prompting. I have also disconnected my bb and rebooted, etc.

Any ideas?

Start from scratch. Then try again. I had that same problem. I was accidentally deleting the newly installed telestra software. Good luck.

Ok,

I found my mistake. Man... I was overlooking something that I thought was associated with the Bharti OS. I then loaded the Bharti OS instead, and found what I did wrong... as I was forgettting to delete the vendor file. Duh!

I now have the zen theme. I have not liked any theme so far on my blackberry, as there was always something I didn't like (either color schemes, icon sizes, etc, etc. I really like the zen theme. It's by far the best one I have used. Well worth the trouble!!!

Thanks everyone!

Check this one out - it's the Zen theme with the BBTiles-Orange background. This theme is awesome because it lets you put large images on your backgrouns with very little interruption from the menu.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...8/BBOrange.jpg
That is the background, the orange screen. When I put something there on the background, it replaces the Orange. The Orange does not stay there.

I have had this problem and in my experience it equals a bad install. You can expect problems down the road. Data communication in particular may be subpar. I suggest installing the OS again.

EDIT: This problem has been common for me when I reinstall PocketDay at the same time as upgrading the OS. In fact, it just happened. I'm deleting PocketDay, clearing PocketDay settings (with PDTest available OTA: http://www.crossriversystems.com/files/pdtest99.jad ) and starting again.

I upgraded fine and have no errors but I now have a weird problem.

I have an 8700c and when browsing the web and chosing to save an image the only option I have is to "Save Page" and when I choose this instead of saving to pictures it says "Save to Message List".

Now I have no way to save pictures on my phone from the net.

I'm going to test out downloading ringtones next to see if it will save them.

i'm a big fan of the Vodaphone theme. Its got that "clean-but-sleek" look.

Is there a way to move some of my apps in the "Applications" folder in the Main menu? I tried going into Settings-->Advanced Options but i didn't see any option to customize the "Applications" folder (as compared to the Zen theme w/ its "Home Screen" option).

I noticed the same thing. I was able to open image attachments with the Cingular OS, and now the option to open the attachment isn't even there.

I agree that it's a great theme. It's even deflected me from Zen for the last few days. But no, you cannot move apps between the main screen and Applications folder. That would be nice.

Question Unlocking Zen in OS 4.1.0.284 - 06-04-2006, 06:25 AM

I have an 8700g that I just got a few days ago (first BB). The handset has OS v4.1.0.284. I was trying to use jibi's method for unlocking the zen theme:

w w w .blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?p=184770#post184770

(sorry, had to break up the url - wouldnt let me post it since I have less than 10 posts here)

Having one problem - I dont have a "Shared" folder underneath Research in Motion, just AppLoader, Modem Drivers, RimDeviceManager, USBDrivers. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

you need to download the handheld software onto your computer.

I assume you're looking for the original T-Mo OS? go to the link below for software download.

I do have the desktop software installed and have been using it to sync my calendar/contacts in outlook. But when I go to look for the folder that jibi mentioned, I dont seem to have the folder called 'Shared'. Under Research in Motion I only have 4 folders: AppLoader, Modem Drivers, RimDeviceManager, USBDrivers.

You have the desktop software installed but need to install the handheld software to your PC as well.

The Telstra software is English only. This bothers me a little bit because of the format of the dates (I am German). Is there an international version of this software from another telco available?

I found a solution. I took the 310 from KPN and copied the language files I needed into the Telstar java folder. Now I could install German on my BB and it works. Roughly 99 % of the text is in German and no problems so far.

I've been using the Vodafone theme, and I like it a lot. Does anyone know how I can get the Missed Call icon on top to go away? There doesn't seem to be a Call History icon - with my stock Cingular theme I could just click on that to view the call history and clear the icon.

Thanks!

New issue here (I think). I successfully upgraded to .284, and have all the themes I had installed before. One of them is called "BB Dimension - Zen", but that's the only thing with Zen in it anywhere. Does this mean I don't have the Zen theme? If that is the Zen theme, then I can't tell how to modify it.

Also, we don't use the "Enterprise Activation" process for our BES. Usually just syncronizing on DM does the trick. But I don't think I've BES activated yet because the Enterprise Activiation icon is still there (it normally dissapears). Thoughts??

No. You must have Windows, unfortunately. I am a Mac user as well, but I had a cheap Dell laptop I was using for a while. I just recently sold both my iBook G$ and that Dell, and got new black MacBook. I installed Boot Camp and Windows XP Pro on that partition, and now have a two-in-one system - loving it.

As a side note, I changed (again) to Telstra to use the Today themes, and I am noticing a small increase in radio reception. I needed that because at my house I get very poor reception, usually an SOS symbol, but now I am keeping 1-2 bars. Anyone else getting better reception with Telstra as opposed to T-Mo/Bharti?
