I had posted the same thing in a seperate thread. My cousin was over this weekend and when we tried it on his we got the same error message. Basically everything worked but he had no sound. Not able to adjust profiles and anytime a call or email came through it would be silent. We had to downgrade him to Rogers stock firmware after that.

I was hoping, there's just not much available out there for 7520's.
Thanks

I have no idea about this. I went through this process three times, once for each time I replaced my unit, and I did it exactly they way I detailed, and I have had zero issues. I wish I could be more helpful, sorry.

mortgageguy and Nitty - which one of you is synncere at HoFo? Secondly, did both of you copy/paste the code or did either of you go through step by step and delete the vendor IDs yourself? I am trying to find a correlation here.

Synn is a relative of mine who is in town right now. His berry got fubar'd I haven't tried on mine yet. Anyways when we found your update none of us wanted to take a chance and mess something up by accident so it was a copy paste job.

In that case I suggest you try the step by step method - maybe my paste is fubar'd as well. I will check it out. I assure you the step by step method is not difficult. I have had SEVERAL ppl PM me with all positive results. If you do step by step and it works let me know - I may just delete the easy portion, because the step portion is so easy as well.

I have 2 8700's here so I will try it again. 1 with the easy method and the other the manual way. We'll see what happens.

Both didn't work. I don't know what went wrong but that same error message showed up when everything was finished.

Null Pointer Exception - NO Tones -

So I followed everything *exactly* and used the "easy cut and paste" method. Everything installed and re-initialized properly, but, I get the Java.lang.NullPointerException at start-up and then when trying to edit a profile.
The bottom line is no ringers, tones or other noises work.
Any ideas?
Thanks--

I'm going to try just removing the Zen theme and seeing if that will work. If not, I may downgrade back for now.

Edited to allow only the Zen theme. Re-loaded (just a few items this time) and boom- sound!!!
Can you see my smile?
Thanks, Seattle18.
P.S. Last time I had to resend service books and then activate it in Options.

There might be a line too long for the web page text window truncating something that you posted?

There is one thing I noticed and it may not be relevant, but just as you had to delete the spaces between 15 and 2 (or whatever it was), there was another situation where there was a space between the pipe and the 197.
Ex:
|15 2|153|161|166|167|168|176|188|192|193|194|195|196| 197|198 (etc)
I removed the extra spaces in both places. Seemed like the right thing to do.

That is part of the problem. Additionally, a few lines down there are the sound files. When you copy them and then paste them into your Notepad, the .cod changes to .c od for some reason. You have to go to those lines and delete the extra space. I cannot find any other unneccessary spaces, but if there are any please let me know. Someone try doing these two things and install. If it works without problem let me know and I will find a way to fix the pasted code. Maybe someone has a web space where they can post it in its original form to ensure no spaces?

So the problems have been found. Good stuff! Seattle18 you've done alot to help me and others w/ this today so thank you!!
As Seattle18 noted earlier if someone is willing to share some webspace to upload this code with no spaces it would be a big help to alot of us.

My pleasure. So, did you make the changes and install it? If so, is it working? Or do you still need to make the mods and then retry?

I haven't yet. Even though I now know to close up the spaces and change the files that turn into .c od into .cod files I am still worried I am gonna mess it up. I'll skip something small and stupid knowing my clumsy ol' self then go through the entire routine over and over If someone wants to help this clutz out and post up the .alx so it won't go all screwy that'd be great. If not I'll have to wait until I have a few spare hours and tinker around and hope that eventually I will catch all the errors.

Okay well I went through things and filled in the spaces and fixed up the files that should have read .cod
It's loading now so I'll have give the results in 15-20 minutes once it's finished.

Hey Seattle - I did it the easy way Cut/Paste
This has really created a problem for me this morning. I could recieve no incoming phone calls without receiving the NullException error.
I wiped the handheld clean and started over. And same thing again. Did one more wipe and reinstalled OS but went back to original OS. _ It's a good thing I renamed it. All is well now except I don't have the themes anymore.

We found the problem - just close up the gaps in the code as described by Nitty and you're good to go! Those .cod files with the gaps in them are the sound files - that's why no ringers. Don't give up so quickly...

I edited the original post to make sure it will not cause problems anymore. Just follow the steps precisely and it WILL work. And yes, it will work on the 8700f as well. They all have the same core system info.

Anyone notice a fourth browser in this theme? I have four now - the two that came with the device, plus one from my BES (Link2Exchange) and with this new theme there is one just labelled Browser. Don't notice any difference - I think it may be just another icon for the same browser, but not sure. Any other info?

I noticed that as well. I just found the home screen menu also. Zen theme is just too much!
Seattle18 I like all the backgrounds you have btw. As you said in a different thread the possibilities are endless.

Strange? -
02-28-2006, 06:26 AM
OK, I tried it and very strange: in the application loader I got the option to choose the themes I wanted to install, but they were all 7200 themes. I tried to roll back to try again (So I removed the installation file, rebooted, went to same procedure) but still in my loader same options? And if I proceed and restart, my device didn't change at all: same themes as before, same options, even no BES re-installation requered!
What do I do wrong? How can I properly roll back?

So is it safe to assume this will not work with the 7100 series?
