Yes I do know this, but they aren't there but the background themes are.

Would you be so kind to just paste the entire .alx file here so we can copy and paste easily?

Funny you should mention that. When I started this thread that's what I did, as well as post the step by step method. But when I pasted the file contents and then other people copied and pasted into their file there would appear some extra spaces in the code, causing the install to not work properly. So I deleted that portion of the instructions to ensure no problems. If you want I can email you a copy of my alx file and you can just replace yours with it. PIN me your email address if you want to do that, or just go through the steps. The steps are pretty easy, so it is up to you.

seattle, go ahead and put these instruction up - a tad easier to just do the job for them (and as long-winded as I like to get in my instructions, and as much as I like to be able to teach people to do things on their own, this is by far the 'dumbest' instructions I've done on the subject)

- Download the Bharti (India) 4.1 software here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B999EC0D90D1FB

Do not mark the option to open Desktop Manager when finalizing the install.

- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete or rename Vendor.xml

- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120 and rename BlackBerry.alx to BlackBerry.alx.old

- Download the BlackBerry.zip file below and unzip the file (BlackBerry.alx) to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120

http://www.blackberryforums.com/atta...achmentid=1925

- Open Desktop Manager and upgrade when prompted

Unfortunately, no. Regardless, you get an additional benefit with the upgrade - the ringer volume is increased considerably.

Between the time Cingular released their handheld software and T-Mobile UK released their software, the base/core OS was upgraded to have 'enhanced theme' support. This is why you cannot simply load the theme onto the existing Cingular 8700 OS (or others prior to .211, I believe).

Sometimes you need to re-send the service books from BIS and then go into Options/Advanced Options/Host Routing Table, and highlight the bold entry and click the wheel and select "Register Now" and everything will appear.

Ok folks, thanks to our friend jibi there is a new and improved instruction set at the top of this thread. He shortened the process a bit and even provided a zip file containing the alx file you need. Take a look and get the new theme!

Default Help from Jibi or Seattle - 03-03-2006, 06:59 PM

I re installed all programs after doing a wipe and uninstall from my laptop.
The new method worked perfectly when opening the zip alx file.
However I still get the message:
Unable to write or update application data
This comes up as an Intellisync error every time I sync
It seems as if it has a problem updating new contacts in my BB device.
What may be causing this?

This time also I have BOTH browsers which is a big plus for me

Has anyone using Exchange My Mail done this upgrade?

I'm going to do it but am wondering if you needed to do a new BES activation after doing the load and assuming if so a new password was required. If that's the case I'll probably wait until Monday to do it so I'm, not without service over the weekend (since I won't be able to get the password from them on the weekend.)

I used to have EMM and if I remember correctly their password is generic, so that it is the same each time, only the user name is unique. I may be wrong. Anyway, now I have Link2Exchange and when I did the upgrade, even though they also use a generic password, I had to call in so they could reset my account to allow for another activation. Even though it was 11pm I was ok because they have 24 hour support. (They also helped me get my account syncing with Apple Mail, when EMM would NOT!) So if no one over at EMM is available to get your answer, I guess you can either do it and hope you don't need a password, or wait til Monday. Regardless, I'm just glad you're going through with it - much progress for you, pal.

Keep in mind that BES Wireless Activation passwords expire after 48 hours of not being used, if I'm not mistaken. They likely set it to a generic password manually when requested. Do you not have MAPI-based connectivity to them (Outlook, etc)? If so, you can simply do a wired activation and it'll move through the EA process automatically.

But anyhow, I would think that it'd be nice if these BES providers would put up a web interface that would first prompt you to login with your Exchange/AD credentials (for verification purposes), then allow you to request a new Enterprise Activation password. It's honestly not much more resources to atleast give you OWA access to an Exchange server, but that's just my opinion (I've never used these providers, so I can't be for certain).

Then again, I don't even allow my own users to request new activation passwords without asking me first, but maybe that's something I could think about implementing (the rest of the resource kit is EASY to script around in perl).

how do I go about getting sms and emails to appear under the same messages screen with the zen theme... I love the new theme but it seems to want to seperate message categories where the theme I was using before didn't do that, any idea how to unify the two with zen theme (ie email and sms all under the Messages Screen).

I love this theme...
