I think I figured it out- My Blackberry usb was connected through a Belkin USB hub, I disconnected it and directly connected it to computer. This worked. As we speak I am updating.

I cannot get the enterprise activation icon to go away. i go to options/home screen/organize applications and click on "enterprise activation" and select hide. But it is still at the top of the list on the home screen, even after a reboot.

Any suggestions.

Try moving it out of one of the top 5 positions and then hide it.

it is a zip file. the process of unzipping a file is simply decompressing said zip file. if you are running XP, right-click on the zip file and select Extract All. or simply open the file and copy the contents and then paste them to your Desktop or some other place. or you could download Winzip and attempt to use that.

Hey,
With Zen I get a small icon in the bottom middle of the screen. It is a # 1 with a empty text balloon above it. This icon is not in the user guide and I dont know how to get rid of it. When I open screen other than the hone screen the icon moves to top centre. Pulling the battery to reboot does not help.
Any idea what this iconis telling me?
Thanks on advance

For my information,
What does that icon indicate? I have no contacts or conversations presently but it is still there. Can you shot off bbmessenger to get rid of it?
Thanks Martin

Why is "5. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete or rename Vendor.xml"?

Application Loader is gone. Why? I don't understand.

Blackberry.alx in "ADD" Application Loader? I try it but it not work. I am confused about them.

Also file say Unknow Application. I have no idea.

Red face Sorry ... - 05-02-2006, 08:02 PM

My deepest apologies if this sounds like a super dumb question, but i'm very new to the whole bb thing ...

i've installed the new OS with the zen theme successfully ...

... but my question is ... if i do not have the data plan on my bb, will i still be able to change the zen background to something else other than the pics that come already installed in the pictures folder??? cause u guys have posted some great backgrounds, and if i could i'd like to change the background with the zen theme ... but ... unfortunately no data plan.

... help. please?

Are you saying that you can't open the file with Microsoft products? If not, then please clarify what you mean. Regardless, you need to open the alx file with Notepad to do the changes. The current instructions are still valid, just follow them precisely and it will work.

Well, no. To get other images you must be able to either navigate to them on your BB browser, which you can't do without a data plan, or email them to your BB email address, which you also cannot do without the data plan. Sorry...

With no data plans you can always use the backgrounds that come pre loaded on the 8700r. If you have no data plan right now sign up for the $40 data pack to add on to your existing voice package. You'll get 3mo true unlimited data.

Ok, normally I don't have problems with this sorta stuff. But I cannot get my device to run the Zen theme. I've followed the directions exactly now 7 or 8 times and it still just shows my normal themes. Any recommendations??

Is there a long - 20+ minutes - period of loading onto your BB during the Desktop Manager phase?

Wirelessly posted (RIM Blackberry 7290: Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

No there is no 20 minute wait for it to load anything on the desktop manager. I've tried deleting it and reinstalling it a few times but it just won't work.

Then you are missing a step. If you do EXACTLY what is in the instructions, there will be a long delay period in that stage, that's the OS loading onto your BB. Be sure you are deleting the vendor.alx file and that you are installing and downloading into the right places. Print the steps out and go thru meticulously...

I don't have to delete and redownload the bharti program I downloaded do I? This is the only step I did out of turn b/c I started the download and then went to lunch at work. Then I came back and tried to do the upgrade. Thanks for the help. I'll try again.

If you have the 8700g, you don't need to load the OS since the Bharti is the same version as the one on your phone already. Just download the OS from T-Mobile, and edit the BlackBerry.alx file. Once you do the edit, open the Desktop Manager, and it should tell you it needs to update the core files.

hyper, for the sake of christ, please just read. there are newer threads with updated information for new OS's with the same methodology of installation. no offense, but a toddler could follow these instructions and get it right.

I am now on "8. Open Desktop Manager and upgrade when prompted (will take 20 or more minutes usually)". Also my file is open Extrent to all "
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120 " My BB connect to desktop manager and wait 20 minutes and no show. I noticed that my ApplicLoader icon is not there on my deaktop manager. Is it right? Should I wait for 20 minutes or more?

Before I restore my computer for clean and refresh.

UPDATE: There is a newer version of OS available now, from Telstra (Australian, I think). These instructions have been updated to provide the Telstra OS, and no longer the Bharti. The Telstra version has the same themes, including Zen. Go to the first post in this thread to get Telstra. Enjoy!

I followed the instructions and everything worked perfectly. Thanks Seattle18. The new theme is really cool. Too bad I'm going to have to redo this whole process when I get my replacement Blackberry from Cingular (I complained about the dust problem and their shipping me a new 8700).

I have a newbie's question about installing the Telstra OS. It's about the step: "If you're on BES, then reactivate through Enterprise Activation."

I work in a very large corporation and have a very distant relationship with our IT tech support. (In fact, it's outsourced to another country time zones away.) I've gathered that our IT dept is running BES 3.x. (Newbie - I'm understanding this is the BB Enterprise Server software on the IT Dept's servers.)

My question is -- if I go through with the updated OS installation, is the "enterprise activation" step above something I can do *entirely on my end*, or do I need to get our IT Dept to take action? I ask because they basically do not support non-standard actions, like updating the BB OS. If I ask they may either be confused or may say "what were you thinking???".

Peripheral observation, maybe related to how easy it is to reactivate: I've seen reference to an email address and password in an activation email. I know that I do not have any email from our IT dept with any activation information.

So, if I can do this all by myself, I'll proceed. If I need to interact with our IT Dept, I may hesitate and not do it.

You need a new password sent to you to reactivate, without it you cannot do it alone.
