OVERLORD Theme! Yes, (I said "OVERLORD") *Pictures* & Review! -
05-15-2006, 01:42 AM
Okay, Most of you probably already know about this theme. I myself haven't a clue how I came about it, nor do I know why I have it on my berry, and finally I'm at a greater loss as to why I'm in love with what is probably the most original and unique themes I ever seen on a berry!
All it does is turn the black text white and the white background black...with some other cool special effects.
Go to your Berry's HOMEPAGE; go to the WHAT's NEW link or if you're reading this and it's 90 degrees outside middle of july...then it's be under "Whats very very old" by then.
go to THEMES and you'll see the OVERLORD theme. Download it and it's yours!
So far I like this theme for the night time or dark conditions. I find it tricky to read and write text under direct sunlight or bright conditions...since the black background picks up alot of glare.
Anyway...this is just intel, there's not much to review here...it's just a theme and CNET is not sending me any checks in the mail so look over the screenshots and pics and get it for yourself....
enjoy.
What my berry normally looks like:
My theme lists, yes I got the ZEN and yes I know it's corny:
Overlords Home Screen: What the theme does is make ALL your Icons invisible or hidden but shown...so it has this ghostlike effect which is really cool, yet simple enough that you are embarrassed that you didn't think of it yourself. Your first impulse is "what the hell happened!" but calm down Bucky...everything is okay.
The Dailing Screen-Note it also has Blue and green fonts and Matrix-like effects
Phone List:
Service List:
Typing text:
The only inherent-non opinionated drawbacks: the GLARE off the black background:
BOTTOM LINE:
i like it,
enjoy

The green numbers on black in the Phone app is also pretty cool...
If you use this theme, you will have to activate Support Style Sheets in the Internet Browser options. Otherwise, it diplays gray text on a black background - which is unreadable.

Delmarco,
You have some very sensitive information in those images that could be easily misused. I would like to suggest that you edit that information out of there. Cell phone number, voice mail number, etc.
Nice theme though.

One drawback -
05-15-2006, 04:41 PM
I loved that theme until I had problems with the web browser. black text on a black background is difficult to read. I was going to try and figure out what was causing it on some pages and not others (probably just small html tweaks), but I lost interest when I found the Zen theme.

You can't see the phone number on an inbound call. Drove me nuts until I eventually removed it because of this problem.

Read my post at #4 above for the solution to the Browser problem. But I agree, Overlord has nothing on Zen.

What Zen themes are you guys using?
I swear that my ZEN theme got boring right after the wow factor ended 2 minutes after I loaded it.
I got to see screen shots of these various ZEN themes out there.

Do you have an 8700 or a 7290? If the latter, then its not available - only for the 8700.

Zen is Zen but for the change in the new version regarding properly displaying third party icons and the inability in to turn off homescreen app names.
But Zen is constantly new for me. I have the Canadian flag on display today, Spiderman yesterday, a cool fractal that I created wirh Fractal Explorer the day before, my Blue Jay screen whenever my team is playing...
Assuming you have a good selection of wallpapers, nothing uses the 8700 screen better. Great too that it keeps the wallpaper on display when locked.
And I love the drop down menu with the centre convenience key. Scrolling left to right, top to bottom just seems crude now.
If you're into wild colours and design, here are some Zen screens that I made with Fractal Explorer.

...ahhh but that would require the pages I am viewing to have style sheets. ...and since I wrote them, they do not. It is my own fault. Just didn't care enough to fix after zen. Thanks for the thought though.

I would like to know this as well...can only tell you that it doesn't appear on the Blackberry HELP! page at the moment. Anyone have any insider info?

I used the Zen theme for 5 minutes and removed it, then went to the 'Bharti' Vodafone and then to the Cingular, none worked for me. I've used Overlord on my 8700 since April. Believe it or not, the white text on a black background is easier to read and much easier on the eyes. All bow down to the 'lord...The Overlord!

i love the overlord theme for its black background and white text.
Ive been trying to figure out how to recreate it in Plazmic Theme Builder since i'd like to change the pictures in overlord but keep the overall colour scheme.

Overlord Signal Strength and Battery Banner -
06-01-2006, 01:05 AM
The Overlord Theme is cool. However, I'd like to know how the banner that displays the Signal Strength and Battery Meter was changed.
The Plazmic Theme Builder with the Plazmic CDK is a great piece of software, but it has only those annoying "wings" for the signal and battery displays, and this, to me, limits severely the overall creativity of the package.
The Overlord Theme, obviously, does not suffer from this limitation, and I would be grateful to know how it is accomplished.
Warm regards,
Firefishe

Another thing I've seen is that in Theme Builder, when the Banner Button (topmost button) is selected, there is a click-on selection entitled "Background," which, in the 8700 base theme, appears to be the "wings" aspect of the GUI.
So might one just create a new Background with a different pic, other than the "wings?"
Any thoughts would be enlightening.

I just answered my own question by *actually clicking on the Background selection in Theme Manager.* All it seems to do is ***Change the Banner Background Image***. That's what I get for eating too many Doritos and Drinking Too Much Pop!
Time to actually test the app before I start asking q's. Well, back to the HOWTO's!
Sorry 'bout that, folks!

People may be assuming that Overlord was created with the Theme Builder. Smoothie (which sucks) was created with the Theme Builder. Overlord and Wave were not.
Plazmic (Rim's preferred software partner) did create the Theme Builder but also do original programing of themes.
