Default 7520 theme that allows "c" from home and dial by name for phone??? - 05-17-2006, 06:14 AM

Just upgraded to 4.1 for my 7520 and these are my two biggest gripes.
A little insane too I might add. Why would they add keystrokes to email or phone functions??? Couple nice benefits to 4.1, but these two issues definitely make it a net downgrade. I did a search, so my apologies if this has been discussed/resolved.

Looking for a good 7520 theme that fixes these. I found one that allow for "c", but the phone is the bigger deal.

Glad you found the 'C' compose fix. How exactly are you using the phone that the process changed so drastically. Personally, I didn't notice any difference after upgradign to v4.1.

Doug

Remember, please try searching first!

Need a screenshot? ... Like JavaLoader?
Try using BBscreen .....Use JL_Cmder!
or BBScreenShooter!

Doug,
Are you using a 7520? I said I found a "c" fix, but the theme was unbearable, so I still don't have "c" or dial by name from phone screen.

Yes, it has been written about many many many times.
It is not a theme issue. When then came out with 4.1, RIM removed both the Compose feature (which Mark has solved) and the DIal by Name feature. It's gone. On newer models (7100/8700) you press and hold the Green button, but that doesn't help you with the 7520. Those features are gone, and playing around with themes won't help you.

Download Mark's QuickCompose utility to add the "C"ompose functionality. But Dialing by name is gone.

Thank you NJ. I can tell you don't have much tolerance for a someone wet behind the ears. I did a search but didn't find much, I'll try to learn how to search better in the future.

If it's not a theme issue, why was I able to fix the "c" issue with a different theme?

I'm shocked that dial by name is gone, is there a good reason for this? The "c" thing is less of an inconvenience than the dial by name.

I'll search for Mark's fix. Thanks for your help.

I have loads of tolerance for new customers. I post quite a bit here and try to be helpful. Dial by name has been posted so many times that I reacted to your posting.

I'm willing to pay someone to develop a Dial by Name hack. Any takers ?

Should be easy enough to do given the number of BlackBerry OS hacks out there already.

I don't think anyone has access to the phone APIs to make this happen. Sorry - RIM removed it, RIM has to put it back.

Can anyone find out more info about this? NJblackberry? I'd pitch in $100 toward someone writing it, assuming it's possible.

As I said, RIM removed the ability to dial by name on BBs without the "green key". I doubt anyone else can add it back in.

"C" for compose has already been done.
